ANR was elevated because of our presence: Vanisri

Yesteryear actress Vanisri, who once ruled the film industry with her marvelous performance and glamour, in the later period has acted in few films playing a headstrong wife and mother-in-law roles, which are close to her real life nature. She has proved the same again while unveiling the statue of one of the great actresses of Indian film industry Savitri at Tummalapalli Kala Kshetram in Vijayawada city.

Speaking on the occasion she said, “If, I was not in Premnagar movie, Savitri in Devadasu movie can ANR get that name and fame at all? It is because of our presence those movies become super hits and ultimately ANR become very popular.”

Commenting about the Padma Awards presented by Central Government every year she said, “Nowadays, we can get them very easily if we spend some money on them.” This indicates what she thinks about the Padma Bhushans and Padma Sris of our film industry.

    Sneha undeterred at 'MPMR' failure

2006/12/6 13:36:02 Though the film is very good in its presentation by director Nagabhushanam and Sneha performed extraordinarily well, the movie failed to provide entertainment to the audiences and is lacking any romantic, action or love scenes.

But for the performance of Sneha there is nothing in the film. Of course, Sneha gave an excellent performance and reminded the audiences of Savitri, Vanisri and others, it failed to do wonders at the box office. Though she earned a very good name as heroine in Sri Ramadasu which was released recently, the film failed to score anything on that count also.

But one can't say that it will have any visible impact on Sneha's career, because, the industry is not in the habit of keeping something in mind for long. Now Sneha is playing opposite Balakrishna and definitely it would be a glamour role. She had a couple of other projects also on hand. So, one commercial flop may not have a lasting impact on a heroine

    'Big B elevated chefs' profession'

    2007/12/22 8:33:22

Compliment from a real-life protagonist for his histrionics is just yet another feather in the cap of Amitabh Bachchan.

Amitabh Bachchan has elevated the respect of chefs' profession by portraying the character on tinsel screen, says country's one of the most famous cook, Sanjeev Kapoor.

"He (Bachchan) is excellent no doubt. He did justice to the character. In fact after Cheeni Kum, the respect for chefs has gone up," says the kitchen expert.

Compliment from a real-life protagonist for his histrionics is just yet another feather in the cap of the Bollywood legend who portrayed the character of a professional restaurateur in the film.

"I knew about the script well before when the film was in the process of making. They (the film crew) had contacted me to have a better understanding of the character. Indeed Amitabh's performance as a restaurant professional was really great. Right from his style and dressing to his arrogance, every thing was excellent in the movie," adds Sanjeev.

The cooking maestro has just come up with his new book India's best Cooking with Olive oil launched at the International Conference on Mediterranean Diets and Health held recently in the Capital.

Welcoming the Supreme Court's recent judgment withdrawing ban on women bartenders in the Capital, the chef says, "Any thing which discriminates people - be it gender or colour or any thing else - should not exist."

Mother and daughter keen to act with him?

    2010/9/27 19:53:07
Earlier, there was buzz that veteran actress Sridevis daughter Jahnavi is going to be introduced into Tollywood with a sequel film Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundhari, in which she will be pairing with young and handsome hero Ram Charan Tej. But, something went wrong and the plan was dropped. Now, once again there was buzz that, Jahnavi is going to make her debut with another sequel film, this time Attaki Yamudu Ammaiki Mogudu, an yesteryear super hit film of Chiranjeevi. If everything goes as planned, probably Jahnavi and her mother Sridevi will act together in this movie in which Ram Charan Tej will play the lead role. While, Sridevi is playing the Vanisris role, Jahnavi will play Vijayashanthis role and Ram Charan will play his Dad Chiranjeevis role in this movie. Though, there was no official confirmation from either party, its learnt that discussions were going on about this project. If, their idea blooms, then certainly its going to be a sensational project in the industry.

    Chinese troops in Pakistani Kashmir

2011/10/12 11:57:30 Concerned over the presence of Chinese military personnel in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, India Wednesday said it had conveyed its objections to Beijing in this regard.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony told reporters after opening the four-day navy commanders conference here that India was aware of the presence of Chinese People's Liberation Army troops in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

"We are aware of their presence there. We have conveyed our concern to China in this regard," Antony said in reply to questions regarding the presence of some combat engineers among the 3,000 odd Chinese in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

"Over the last many years, we are consistently developing our own military capabilities so that we can meet any challenge to protect our territory and our sovereignty," he said.

To a question on China's objections to India exploring oil in parts of the South China Sea off Vietnam that Beijing claims to be its own territory, Antony refused comment as Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang is in the capital for talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"There is no question of India going there (South China Sea) in large scale. We will go there for exercises and other things. We will go there uninterrupted for passage of ships and trade. There is no question of any naval presence...that is not our intention. Our main concern is to protect our core area," he said.

However, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, ahead of the talks, told reporters that all bilateral issues will be on the table for discussion between the two sides. Krishna was answering a question if the South China Sea issue will be part of discussions with the Vietnamese delegation.

To another question, Antony said the Admiral Goshkov aircraft carrier that India has bought from Russia, where it is presently undergoing a refit, will definitely be delivered in December 2012.

After Allu Arjun, it is now Jr.s turn

2011/3/9 17:51:19 Stylish star Allu Arjuns grand marriage and the reception party were over. Now, all the attention turns toward Jr.NTRs marriage, who is going to marry Lakshmi Pranathi on 3rd May at the same venue. But, unlike Allu Arjun, Jr.NTR has to cross some hurdles before sitting for his marriage. He has started two films Rachcha and Churakatti at a time and they need to be finished before his wedding.

Then, he needs the full support of Nandamuri clan for his marriage. One cant assure about their presence or absence for his marriage as still many of them considers Jr.NTR and his mother Sheela (Second wife of Hari Krishna) as the outsiders in the family. So, this sensitive issue to has be addressed very before the marriage to avoid embarrassment on the D day.

Although, Harikrishna hugs Jr.NTR now, it is to be noted that, he has never openly announced that Jr.NTR as his legal son. So, performing his marriage would be naturally considered as an official announcement from Harikrishna accepting Jr.NTR as his legal son. Hence, Harikrishna has to sort out issues if any in this regard with his family members before sitting for his sons marriage.

However, Nandamuri clan has made it clear with their presence in the Groom ceremony that, they have no more objections to accept him as their family member. Hope, the young tiger who volunteered to success on his own efforts and win the hearts of the people, will definitely going to enjoy his marriage amid the presence of Nandamuri clan and of course his die hard fans.

    Nayantara in an upbeat mood

    2006/12/7 13:11:55

Though Nayantara belongs to Gods own country and started her career in Mollywood, her subsequent success in Tamil and Telugu films led her to shift her head quarters to these states. Since she was too busy in Andhra and Tamil Nadu and was focusing all her attention there, she was not able to concentrate in her mother tongue Malayalam.

Her recent Telugu film Lakshmi with Venkatesh created a ripple in the industry with its emphatic success. Following this, this film is dubbed into Malayalam and released in Kerala where it was declared a great hit. Now the industry sources feel that the time is ripe for Nayantara to rule Mollywood also. This hit has elevated her to the status of top heroines in Malayalam films.

Petrol, Gas and next Loans' interests on cards

    2011/9/16 8:08:18

After a steep hike in petrol prices, the stage appears set for interest to go up on automobile, housing and corporate loans with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) widely expected to hike key rates at noon Friday to tame inflation.

RBI Governor D. Subbarao will conduct a mid-quarter review of the monetary policy for this fiscal against the backdrop of annual inflation rate once again nudging double-digit levels, even as industrial output has slackened.

If the rates are hiked, it will be the 12th such exercise since January last year, even as analysts have begun to doubt if the aggressive stance of the central bank is having any effect at all on curbing price rise.

People at large are already fuming after state-run oil retailers announced a hike of Rs.3.14 per litre in petrol prices, the 10th time since the government decided to free this essential fuel from price controls in June last year.

"Headline inflation has accelerated to a high of 9.78 percent on the backdrop of weak industrial output figures. This raises the question whether the RBI's monetary policy is having an effect at all," said Anis Chakravarty, director, Deloitte Haskins & Sells.

"Statistics reveal that inflation since Jan 11 has consistently remained over 9 percent despite persistent rate hikes by the RBI. We hope the RBI pauses in the current cycle and reflects on alternate means to address this issue."

Latest data showed annual inflation rate for August, based on the wholesale price index, inching closer towards double digits at 9.78 percent, while food inflation still remained at elevated levels.

For the week ending Sep 3, food inflation was registered at 9.47 percent.

At the same time, India's gross domestic product growth declined to 7.7 percent in the April-June period, the slowest in six quarters, and industrial output slumped to 3.3 percent in July, the slowest in 21 months.

As headline inflation surged closer to double-digit, the chief economist with the finance ministry, Kaushik Basu, said the Reserve Bank would have to control inflation without affecting growth too much.

"There is no black and white answer. RBI will have to balance out these two -- controlling inflation and not dampening growth too much," Basu said, expecting inflation to remain at elevated levels till the end of this year.

Akshay Kumar's presence on movie set gives co-star stage fright

2006/12/11 10:29:31 Bollywood action hero Akshay Kumar's appearance during the filming of "Namaste London" or "Hello London" left his fellow actor Upen Patel tongue tied, a newspaper reported Monday.

Kumar recently turned up to watch an emotional scene being acted out by co-star Patel, said director Vipul Shah. Patel had been performing well, but when he spotted Kumar seated quietly near a television monitor, he turned jittery and began fumbling.

"Upen just couldn't deliver his dialogue," Shah told the Mumbai Mirror newspaper. "We kept on doing retakes and even after 20 retakes Upen couldn't deliver the scene."

Shah finally asked Kumar to leave the set so Patel could complete the shot.

Patel acknowledged he was intimidated by Kumar's presence. "He's my role model and I became very conscious of his presence," Patel said.

Martial arts expert Kumar, 39, has acted in more than 70 movies over the past 15 years. His string of successes include movies such as "Phir Hera Pheri" (Some More Hustling) and "Garam Masala" (Hot Spice).

Bollywood newcomer, Patel, 26, has acted in one Bollywood movie "36 China Town" that was released this year.

    PRP faces Jagan threat

2010/12/22 0:25:01 The air of uncertainty in the state's political space is giving tense moments to Prajarajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi, as speculation is rife that a group of legislators are likely to part ways with it.

The presence of two PRP legislators A Maheshwar Reddy and Katasani Rami Reddy at Jagan's public meeting in Vijayawada on Tuesday lends credence to the fact that the party president had lost control on at least two of his legislators.

Though there is nothing anti-party activity in their presence at Jagan's meeting, political analysts hint at the possibility of a split in the PRP turning into reality once Jagan announces his party.

Party sources admitted that since Jagan's meeting was in support of distressed farmers, they could not view the presence of the legislators in the meeting as an act of indiscipline. "We have learnt from media that some of our MLAs were present at the meeting. But we cannot take cognizance of it as they have attended a programme in support of distressed farmers and not a party meeting. Though we are monitoring developments closely, we cannot do anything as of now. We will have to wait for some more time before thinking of any move," PRP sources said.

The sources however discounted the theory of exodus by PRP MLAs saying, "All MLAs are with us and have reposed their faith in the leadership of Chiranjeevi. The recent Assembly session is testimony to our unity."

Meanwhile, some of the party MLAs confided in private that there was every possibility of a split in PRP soon after Jagan announces his party, where the PRP president could be left with only six (including himself) of the party's 18 legislators.

    'Payanigal gavanathirku' getting delayed

    2008/3/8 9:33:47

After 'Thota', Jeevan is acting in 'Krishna leelai'.

'Thota' has elevated him to the status of a minimum guarantee actor. And Jeevan is trying very hard to retain that.

In that direction, he has decided not to take villain roles. Jeevan gives more importance to action stories and his next film is Kavithalaya's 'Krishna leelai'.

So, what happens to 'Payanigal gavanathirku announced earlier?

Major portion of that film directed by Vijayakumar takes place in a train. It is becoming difficult to get permission to shoot in trains owing to terrorist threat. It takes one month's struggle even for a day's shooting,

For the film 'Payanigal gavanathirku 'it needs shooting in trains at least for one month. It is doubtful if the trains can be hired for that long.

So, Jeevan has given priority to 'Krishna leelai'.
