Things don’t seem to be too well between Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan not just because the latter didn’t invite his so-called good friend to his wedding.
Reports are that Abhishek had to postpone the shooting of Pradeep Sarkar 's next film ‘Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag’ from May to June.
Rani seems to have not taken kindly to it since she will have to reschedule her own dates now.
Abhishek will film for the film after his honeymoon and will have crucial scenes with Rani and a few with mom Jaya Bachchan .
Rani had to adjust her dates with that of Abhishek's and this is when she lost her cool. A source said, "Rani has been tight-lipped about this extremely unpleasant situation. The Bachchans completely ignored her."
Close friends of Rani said that the actress is disheartened but prefers to maintain a stoic silence. In the recent past she had refused to comment when she was asked about the brewing romance between Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai .
"Rani is happy for Abhishek. She even sent her wishes to Abhishek and Aishwarya during the wedding. But she is not exactly looking forward to the shoot," said a source close to the actress.
A source from Yashraj Films added, "The actors will have to work together in spite of all the issues. We're sure that both Rani and Abhishek will do a good job. They are wonderful actors at the end of the day."
Inspite of being a close friend of Abhishek Bachchan , Rani Mukherjee was not invited to his wedding with Aishwarya Rai . Rani has worked with Abhishek in several films like Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna , Bunty Aur Babli Yuva , Hum Tum (Abhishek’s special appearance) and Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai .
Rani and Abhishek are known to be good pals and share an awesome onscreen chemistry. Apparently this friendship between Rani and Abhishek has resulted in the omission since Ash didn't want Rani to be invited for the wedding not being very ecstatic about her friendship and onscreen chemistry with Abhishek.
Industry insiders say that Rani and Ash haven't been able to see eye-to-eye ever since Rani replaced the latter in Shah Rukh Khan 's home production Chalte Chalte . There have been times when Rani has tried to communicate with Ash, but has received the cold shoulder. Thus, although Rani shares a good rapport with the Bachchans, she has been kept out of the guest list. Seems like Ash is not ready to forgive Rani – a trait of a typical Scorpio.
Cold vibes continue between Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukherjee
Everybody is aware of the cold war between Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukherjee which goes back a long way ever since Rani stepped into Ash’s role without informing her in Chalte Chalte .
Both Ash and Rani were said to be thick pals earlier and always took advice from each other. However it now seems like Ash’s hubby and Rani’s good friend Abhishek Bachchan is being dragged into the midst of the cold war. But the smitten husband is keen to please his new bride Ash.
Rani and the Bachchans have always shared an extremely friendly relationship, she also shares good on-screen chemistry with Abhishek and has also worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Black .
However it was clear that the Bachchans would be drawn into the cold war between Ash and Rani when the latter was not invited for the grand Ash-Abhishek wedding.
Recently Ash also accompanied Abhishek for the shooting schedule of Laaga Chunari Mein Daag to Switzerland. There the vibes between Ash and Rani were ice cold and Ash even offended the heroine Rani by commentating on her excess of make-up for the film.
Rani was miffed but decided to try and make peace, so after the shooting was wrapped up she invited the entire cast and crew of the film for a completion party. Rani was also gracious to extend the invitation to Ash.
However Ash was not in the mood to make peace, both she and Abhishek did not turn up for the event.
Jaya Bachchan , who also stars in the film was gracious enough to call her hosts and inform them about her ill health which was the reason for her not making it to the party.
However son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Ash simply skipped the party with no explanations offered.
A source though claims, “We really don't know what's happening between Rani and Ash, but it's a fact that they are not best buddies. However, Abhishek and his family are extremely fond of Rani. I doubt that equation will ever change.”
2006/11/22 16:06:46 Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who has been paired with actress Rani Mukherjee in a number of recent roles, says it is a pleasure working with her as they bring out the best of each other's acting talents, a news report said on Wednesday.
Bachchan, 64, and Mukherjee, 28, played teacher and pupil in the Bollywood hit ``Black'' a year ago. The rising star Mukherjee was Bachchan's daughter-in-law in the recently released ``Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna,'' or ``Never Say Goodbye.''
In the upcoming film ``Babul,'' Bachchan plays a father-in-law who is determined to marry-off his widowed daughter-in-law, Mukherjee.
``I guess we're lucky to have our acting talents being tested in unusual ways,'' he told the Mumbai Mirror. ``Rani is a terrific co-star and it's a pleasure to work with her.''
Bachchan described Mukherjee as a ``very caring girl'' who was a ``thorough professional on camera.''
Mukherjee has acted in 34 Indian language movies since she made her Bollywood debut nine years ago. India's top actor Bachchan has acted in nearly 160 movies in a career spanning three decades.
Rani Mukherjee topples over co-star Salman while trying to ride a bicycle
2006/11/18 10:58:56 Rani Mukherjee’s next film ‘Baabul’ with co-star Salman Khan is all set for release. The film has been directed by Ravi Chopra and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and John Abraham. Recently an incident while shooting for the film has left Rani really embarrassed. The sequence required Rani to ride a bicycle along with actor Salman Khan on the scene. However Rani does not know how to ride a bicycle, but the actress who was embarrassed about the situation refused to let the others on the film sets know about her inability. What followed was a ruckus, Rani ended up ramming the cycle into actor Salman Khan and both toppled over.
Director Ravi Chopra was aware that Rani does not know how to ride a cycle, so he suggested that she rehearse a bit before getting onto the bike; however the adamant Rani refused to acknowledge the fact that she does not know how to ride a bicycle in front of the rest of the cast and crew. So the actress decided to just give the shot and didn’t bother to ask for help. However Rani kept fidgeting when she got on to the bike and hence co-star Salman offered to help, however Rani refused any help and pretended that she was an expert bike rider. Rani began to ride the bicycle and even managed to do so for a bit, however director Chopra says “Rani started off well however after a while everyone in the unit was waiting for Rani to stop. Salman was standing at a distance. But the next thing we knew that Rani had rammed the bike into Salman and both toppled over.”
However the director was relieved to see that both his stars had not been seriously hurt by the fall and only had minor bruises. Rani on her part was extremely embarrassed by the entire scene but then later sportingly joined in the laughter at her expense. Rani even apologized to Salman and the actor in his typical witty manner replied “Now you know why I wanted to help you…….I was bothered about my life.”
Rani will also soon be seen in Yash Raj film ‘Tara Rum Pum’ with Saif Ali Khan and she is also shooting for another Yash Raj film in Varanasi where recently there was a huge controversy involving Rani . The film also stars Konkana Sen Sharma, Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.

Rani Mukherjee Biography
Member of the same illustrious film family from which Kajol draws her lineage Rani Mukherjee may still be at a distance from the citadel that houses her cousin. But there is no doubt about the light-eyed Bengali girl's mass appeal. Moreover, she is putting all her efforts and working hard to reach there.
Precocious yet innocently oblivious of it, it is the actress's unassuming self which draw friends and well-wishers to her.
Producers made a beeline for Rani's door (she was riding high on the success of Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) and just as she was gradually shifting positions towards the top in the popularity charts, she started getting the jolts. Good nature did not really help Rani in gaining stronghold and consolidating her position in Mumbai.
Films like Baadal cast a shadow on her prospects. The film left theatres in India without a whimper. Hope was alive in the form of Hadh Kar Di Aapne, which was in the pipeline. Rani had faith in Govinda and David Dhawan's saleability at the box office. Unfortunately, the film failed to raise a laugh and the cash boxes did not ring.
Rani tried to remain unfazed. She was looking towards the future and Hey Ram. As an actress, Rani was proud to be associated with an actor-director of Kamal Haasan's caliber and was thrilled to have Hey Ram in her lap. Even Hey Ram did not propel her career to the extent she had expected. There wasn't any critical appreciation of her performance in the film. Infact, Rani's fans became aloof when they saw their favorite actress locked in a passionate kiss in the film.
The actress does not regret though. ''I wanted to work with Mr. Kamal Haasan. The rest did not matter'' she said in an interview some time ago.
Rani still is excited about the projects that are lined up as her next films. A series of unsuccessful runs have not dampened the giggly self. She continues to be sprightly. TOP
Abhishek Bachchan in a chat from Namibia, where he’s shooting for Goldie Behl’s Drona, gave the Bengali actress Rani a clean and amiable chit
Putting aside all the pssst-pssst about Rani Mukerji being ostracised from the Bachchan empire because of her supposed hostilities with Aishwarya, Abhishek Bachchan in a chat from Namibia, where he’s shooting for Goldie Behl’s Drona , gave the Bengali actress a clean and amiable chit.
“Who says Rani and I are at loggerheads? Such talk hasn’t affected our friendship at all. Strangely, we’ve played husband and wife in most of our films together including Hum Tum where I came in, get married to her, and exit from the script. Rani is a superb actor and we’ve done some truly challenging work together. You’ve to see her in our new film. I hope to do many more films with her.”
There is a strong rumour in Kollywood that Rani Mukherjee will be paired with Rajnikanth in his next film with Maniratnam. She was supposed to act with Rajni in Sivaji, but she could not do so because of her tight Bollywood schedule.
Now, Maniratnam wants a story like Thalapathy, which was a mega hit. He is keen on signing up Rani as the heroine for the yet-to-be-titled project. Though many actors, including Trisha and Asin, are in the fray, Rani is sure to get the offer, say sources in Kollywood
2006/11/18 10:55:10 eBay India has announced a unique eBay Bollywood Barometer, which gauges Bollywood star popularity based on the number of products up for sale on eBay India website. The range of products varies from movie memorabilia like film magazine covers, posters, movies and books.
Amongst the female actors, Rani Mukherjee tops the list of the barometer followed by Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta at the second and third place repsectively. The timing for Madhuri Dixit's comeback seems to be right on target as she is number four on the barometer. Rekha actually ties with Priyanka Chopra at 36 listings each.
The Bollywood male brigade is topped by John Abraham, who leaves behind Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan at the second and third position respectively. Abhishek Bachchan's popularity though is assumed to be high; the same has not been seen on eBay because his ranking is at number eight. On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan is ranked number four.
2006/11/27 10:32:42 Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee turned stunt rider — without intending to — while learning to ride a motorbike for a new film.
Mukherjee's co-star, Salman Khan, who was teaching her how to ride a bike for a scene in "Babul," said the actress failed to listen to her advice. She released the clutch too quickly and pressed the accelerator, he said.
"The bike jumped a few meters (yards) high, and landed hard on the ground," Khan told The Times of India newspaper. "I have never seen anything like that in my life before."
Mukherjee and the bike escaped without scratches.
The crew however was more concerned about the state of the bike, said Khan.
"It was a 10-year-old bike and was owned by a British guy, and he was extremely possessive of his bike," Khan said.
After the crash, Khan said, "We forgot about Rani and everyone on the set was looking at the British guy for his reaction."
But Mukherjee's impromptu stunt startled even the bike's owner. Khan recalls the man laughed and said, "'Mr. Khan, I would sacrifice 10 bikes to see action like that!'"
In the upcoming film "Babul," Mukherjee stars alongside Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan, who plays a father-in-law determined to marry her off after the death of her husband, played by Khan.
Rani Mukherjee is a very upset girl these days. It is said that it is due to the engagement of Ash with Abhi. At one time they were romantically linked more so with the film Bunti aur Babli. Rani appears to be visibly disappointed but is not letting it show.
She has not come face to face with Abhisekh after his engagement. In fact, she went to great lengths to avoid coming face to face with Abhisekh Bachchan when accompanied mother Jaya Bachchan on the sets of ‘Choodiyan’. Rani and Jaya are acting together in the film.
2006/11/15 12:45:50 Rani Mukherjee may have apologised to the media but there was a certain brush of arrogance in her tone.
Rani apologised to the media for the scuffle that broke out in Varanasi between her bodyguards and journalists on Monday.
The incident tool place while Rani was shooting in the holy city for Chudiyan under the banner of Yashraj Films.
A day after, along with the apology, Rani sought a similar reaction from the media if they were at fault.
"On behalf of my production, I am apologising to the media if some misbehaviour has happened with the press. We will also want the press to apologise because if they have misbehaved then they should not be reluctant to say sorry," Rani said.
All her responses to media questions were heavily laced with sarcasm and made with a haughty and disdainful demeanor, leaving one wondering what she was trying to achieve through the press conference.
When a reporter interjected with a question just as Rani finished answering the previous one, in what appeared to be a premeditated response she flared, "Zara tameez se. Ek jane se baat kar rahe hain hum. (Behave yourself. I am speaking with someone already.)."
Then, realizing that she had actually finished answering the previous question, Rani continued, "Bataiye, kya aap ki kathinayee hai? (Tell me, what is your problem?)" Thinking his misery is over the reporter asked Rani about the story of the film.
Rani shot back, "Yeh nahin bata sakte. Bahut vaahiyaat sawaal hai. (I cannot tell. It is a very irresponsible question!)"
Another reporter suggested that she give a brief outline but Rani flatly refused, "We cannot give".
It is customary for film makers to explain the settings of the story on such occasions and Rani could have easily obliged. However, she had an agenda of her own.
"Just be happy that we have come and are shooting here," Rani said instead.
"The film fraternity and the press have a close bond. The point is that we should be subtle and good to each other," Rani added.
On Monday, the scuffle broke out when some journalists tried to get close to the crew members, including Rani and Konkona Sen Sharma , who were shooting on the banks of the River Ganga.
Media persons allege that the security of the crew members roughed them up.
"The things should be like, we go out of here after our shoot and give you our interviews and photo shoots and that's it. What is the point fighting and quarreling over it? The fact is that we both are not male actors, we are delicate females, so if people will create havoc, we would surely not like it," Rani said.
Pradeep Sarkar - directed ‘Chudiyan’ also stars mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan , Abhishek Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan .
Rani Mukherjee drives a motorbike, rams into Salman Khan
2006/11/20 18:44:47 Normally, a hero drives the bike and the heroine sits pillion. But a scene in Ravi Chopra’s movie Babul shows otherwise.
In the film, Rani Mukherjee and Salman Khan play husband and wife. One scene in the movie needed to show Rani driving the bike all by herself and stopping it before Salman.
Since Rani has had no or perhaps little experience of driving a motorbike, the movie’s director and her co-star Salman insisted that she undergo a brief training in handling the vehicle.
But Rani was confident she could handle the machine all by herself.
Reports have it that when the shot was being canned, Rani started the bike and rode off smoothly. But when she was supposed to stop in front of Salman, she did not apply the brakes. As a result, the bike rammed into Salman. Both Rani and Salman fell to the ground.
Thankfully, none of the two stars had any major injury.
On the contrary, the accident evoked laughter from the shooting unit. Even Salman took the incident very sportingly.
‘Babul’ is the story of a father-in-law who goes against tradition to set a remarriage of his widowed daughter-in law. Amitabh Bachchan and Rani play the respective roles. Salman plays her husband who dies in an accident. John Abraham plays Rani’s friend who wants to marry her after she is widowed.
Abhsihek Bachchan, the modest!! He got THE award for Yuva. His father, rated as Best actor of the Millennium rated amongst one of the most powerful persons in India, was also nominated in the same category. He still refuses to believe what Ram Gopal Verma has to say about him. Verma believes that he is a better actor than his father and this Bachchan junior denies it without a second thought.
"I know Ramu is a huge fan of dad. He just wants me to have the courage to face the camera with dad," says Abhishek. Verma is currently working on the movie ‘Sarkar’ with the father-son duo. After a spate of flops punctuating his initial film career, Bachchan junior seems to have found his groove. The coming year sees Abhishek in a range of films.
There is "Bunty Aur Babli" with father Amitabh and Rani Mukherjee, Anubhav Sinha's "Dus", Rituparno Ghosh's "Antar Mahal" in Bengali, Ram Gopal Varma's "Sarkar", Sanjay Gadhvi's "Dhoom 2" and an as yet-untitled Karan Johar film. "Initially, it was terrifying to share screen space with Amitabh Bachchan. I'm still nervous," Bachchan told IANS, adding that he is beginning to learn more and more from watching his dad perform before the camera.
If you thought Rani Mukherjee is unhappy about her marriage rumours with Aditya Chopra, think again! The actress who's basking in the success of No One Killed Jessica has started enjoying them.
In an interview with Filmfare the actress revealed that she's not bothered about g etting linked with Aditya Chopra. “The good part is that it is constant. I’m glad I’m being linked with just one person not many. I enjoy that ‘constant’.”
Rani Mukherjee also indicated the reason behind not going public with her relationship.
“When two people are in a relationship, you have to take the other person’s feelings into consideration. I may want to speak about a relationship, but I won’t if the person I’m in a relationship with is not comfortable with me talking about him,” she said.
The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai is all set to play the famous Indian warrior queen – Rani Lakshmibai – in a film by Ketan Mehta . The newly wed Bachchan bahu will add a must-have skill to her acting repertoire – learning to use a sword while riding a horse. Ash will need the skills to play the role Mehta said in an interview on Friday.
``Ash will undergo intensive training,'' Mehta said. ``The role demands a lot of action scenes.''
Ash is to play Rani Lakshmibai, the legendary ruler of Jhansi, who played a key role in the 1857 uprising against India's then British colonial rulers. Lakshmibai died aged 23 on the battlefield while fighting British soldiers in 1858. Mehta said he was completing the script for the movie ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ and the cast would include British actors. He also plans to hire British technicians and trainers for the action sequences.
Ash, who recently married Abhishek Bachchan , will star in the title role.Mehta’s last film was the Aamir Khan – Rani Mukherjee starrer The Rising two years ago. Last year, former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen said she planned to produce and star in a separate movie on Rani Lakshmibai, but is yet to announce details of its filming. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the uprising known as Sepoy Mutiny and the First War of Independence.
Abhishek could get more accolades than SRK in 'KANK'
All eyes may be on Shahrukh Khan on the eve of release of Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' but a major share of the accolades for the film could well go the way of Bollywood's new teenage heartthrob Abhishek Bachchan, if initial reaction to the television promos and trailors of the film are anything to go by.
Shahrukh Khan may be playing the central character in 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' but if trade sources are to be believed Abhishek may prove to be the ultimate dark horse who gets all claps from the kids, youths and front benchers as well as the sympathy of the family audiences.
Those who have seen the rushes of the film say that Shahrukh's "overwhelming presence" in the film notwithstanding, several sequences in 'Kabhi Alvida na Kehna' which present Abhishek as the "architypical angry young man" may endear him to the cinegoers in the same way as Amitabh's angry young man persona in films like "Deewar'", "Zanzeer" and "Trishul" did in the 70s.
In the film, Shahrukh play the character of a person who, caught in a loveless marriage, falls in love with the character of Rani Mukherjee, who, while married to Abhishek Bachchan, too finds herself stifled in her marriage.
Sources in the film trade say that though the film, essentially, revolves around Shahrukh as is the case with most films by Karan Johar, the sympathies of the audiences, specially the kids and family audiences who form a major proportion of the cinegoers could well go to the character played by Abhishek Bachchan in the film.
This, coupled with the immense popularity of the two songs "Rock N Roll Soniye" and "Where's the Party tonight" in which Abhishek appears, could result in Junior Bachchan adding to his already big fan following among the kids and the youth after "Kajra Re" and "Right Here Right Now" songs in "Bunty Aur Babli" and "Bluffmaster".
Infact the song "where's the party tonight" picturised on Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta in the film, as also the "Rock and Roll Sonie" song picturised on Amitabh, Abhishek and Preity, are a huge rage among all sections, specially the youth and the children.
While both Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan come across as exquisite in the "Rock N Roll Soniye" song, which has been appearing in television promos of the film on various satellite channels for quite some time now, Abhishek is simply fabulous in the song "where's the party tonight" which already has the youth dancing to its groovy beats reminding the viewers of "Say Na Say Na" and "Right Here Right Now' from "Bluffmaster".
"Rock N Roll Soniye" could well prove to be as popular as the "Kajra Re" song in "Bunty Aur Babli" which had the whole nation dancing to its beat. Trade sources say Bollywood actress Kajol and hunk John Abraham will also be seen in this video. While Kajol's will be a fleeting appearance in the song, John is said to feature in a scene as a Disc Jockey.
Further, "What's the party tonight", which was picturised by Karan Johar recently, could create the same buzz as the "Right Here Right Now" song.
Analysts say that going by the way even the brief glimpses of the songs, in television promos of the film, have the kids and the youth going crazy, Abhishek could well run away with all the "seetis" of the front benchers as well as young boys and girls, who today constitute a major proportion of the cinegoers in the country.

Rani Mukherjee would soon be moving Bombay HC against Ahmednagar collectorate's order to cancel her ownership of a plot.
Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee would soon be moving Bombay High Court against Ahmednagar District collectorate's order to cancel her ownership of a plot near Shirdi due to irregularities in the deal.
"After the final hearing earlier this month, the Sub-divisional Officer (SDO), Srirampur had passed an order to cancel the name of Rani Mukherjee from the land's sale deed and took over its possession. We will move High Court against the order," Mukherjee's lawyer Nanasaheb Chaudhry said from Shirdi.
The actress is said to have paid Rs 33 lakh in December 2005 for a non-transferable farmland near Shirdi. After the purchase, Rani had paid a stamp duty of Rs 1.32 lakh for registration. But the title of the land could not be transferred to her name as it belonged to a farmer.
"We disagree with the findings of district administration. It has said that it was an agricultural land hence it was ceiling it and required special permission from the government for transferring it to a non-farmer," Mukherjee's lawyer said.
"The land, however, was already a non-agriculture land hence ceiling was not applicable under Section 47 of Ceiling Act," he further said, adding, "the issue of the said land being 'non-agricultural land' was not challenged after the Tehsildar had declared it so in 1981."
Abhiash are indeed the current flavour of Bollywood. After innumerable fans going gaga over them, even Bollywood’s queen bee Rani Mukherjee seems to have succumbed to their charm. Just try asking the gorgeous actor who she considers Bollywood’s hottest real life couple, and her prompt answer is “Abhishek and Aishwarya.” Now they have a ‘starry’ fan following too!
