Though mid-way through his shooting for B.R. Chopra's "Baabul" in London, Amitabh Bachchan says he will definitely be in India during wife Jaya's swearing-in as Rajya Sabha member once again.
The swearing-in, scheduled for Monday, is a big moment that he cannot miss.
And Amitabh plans to make the impossible happen. He flies out of London for barely 48 hours just to share the important moment in his wife's life.
"I leave for Mumbai on Sunday, then proceed to Delhi to attend Jaya's swearing-in ceremony. Then I am back immediately after on Tuesday in London to resume the shooting of 'Baabul'," Amitabh told IANS from London.
Jaya, Samajwadi Party MP, was disqualified from the Rajya Sabha in March over simultaneously holding an office of profit as chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation. She resigned from the Uttar Pradesh body. In June, she was re-elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.
Unfortunately, son Abhishek won't be able to leave Durban where the tightly-packed schedule for the climax of Sanjay Gadhvi's "Dhoom 2" is being shot.
After completing his London schedule, Amitabh returns to Mumbai on July 28 to attend to other pending assignments.
How does he manage it?
Jaya Bachchan"You must understand work is his god. You cannot take his work away from him. Sure he has had a health setback. But he knows he can't take it easy. To him that would mean a kind of defeat that he can't take," said one of Amitabh's keenest admirers and friends.
"Amit-ji has today out-distanced every legend of show business in the country. He is still comparatively young. And look at the energy level. Look at how he matches steps with Aishwarya Rai and his son in 'Kajra re'," said Gulzar, noted lyricist and filmmaker.
As usual Amitabh is nonchalant at the observations and said: "I don't sit and think about how much I have done. There is too much to do. A commitment is a commitment. As long as I am getting good work I'll continue.
"After this schedule of 'Baabul', I am again back in London at the end of August. As for Jaya's swearing into the Rajya Sabha, there is no way I'd miss that."
2011/5/16 3:27:37 AIADMK Chief Jaya Lalitha will sworn-in as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu around 12.15 pm today at Madras University premises. Along with her, 33 MLAs of her party will also take oath as Ministers. It is learnt that, Jaya Lalitha will keep Home department with her and allocating ‘Finance’ to her loyalist Panner Selwam. TDP president Chandra babu will attend this swearing cermony.
After facing the camera with his wife Jaya after a decade, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is convinced he wants to do a lot more work with her.
The power couple shot for an ad campaign for jewellery brand Tanishq in Mumbai Tuesday.
'Back from Tanishq shoot with Jaya... loved it... relaxed, well controlled atmosphere ... wife seemed happy and comfortable! Must get her in front of the cameras with me... she is such a natural! More films perhaps with her in roles commensurate with our age (sic),' Amitabh posted on his Twitter page.
Amitabh and Jaya, 62, were last seen playing husband and wife in Karan Johar's superhit family saga 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' in 2001.
'Was a joy today to be in the company of Jaya on set, as we worked together after a gap of almost 10 years. The same studio, Filmistan, the same floor #3 and the same DOP - the director of photography, Kiran Deohans - as was for our film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'. Just sheer coincidence! And selling... what women like best, diamonds,' he posted.
Apparently, Big B has taken his wife Jaya Bachchan’s advice quite seriously. No wonder, as soon as Jaya described Prakash Jha to be one crazy man; Sr. Bachchan decided to get into proactive mode in order to deal with a filmmaker with whom he was going to work for the first time in a film titled ‘Aarakshan’.
Big elaborates, “I had no perception about Prakash Jha as a filmmaker. But I must say Jaya’s advice worked quite well for me as I completely surrendered to his rules and regulations on the sets.”
He further adds, “It was a pleasure working with Jha as the set of ‘Aarakshan’ was no less than a classroom where discipline prevailed and everyone had to abide by it including me. The film deals with the sensitive and controversial theme of job reservation and violence. So, such an environment on sets was the need of the hour and I loved every bit of it.”
Big B also claims ‘Aarakshan’ to be his first ever issue based film which makes it more special.
Three Bachchans together only in 'Bhairavi': Amitabh
2006/11/23 15:37:05 The three Bachchans - Amitabh, Jaya and Abhishek - will be seen together not in Pradeep Sarkar's new film, as the rumour mills suggest, but in a Rakeysh Mehra venture called "Bhairavi", says the Big B.
Rumours have a way of gathering momentum if unchecked. The cast of Yashraj Films' untitled film now being directed by Sarkar in Varanasi has undergone a lot of changes, both real and imagined. When Sarkar's blue-eyed girl Vidya Balan opted out, Konkona stepped in to play her role. Shabana Azmi's name was also mentioned in the cast.
But the latest brainwave to hit the television channels is that all the three Bachchans will be together in the film.
Amitabh denies it and says: "Jaya and Abhishek are in Pradeep Sarkar's film. I am not. No one has approached me. And to my knowledge there's no role for me in this film. Of course, all three of us are keen to be seen together. And it will happen soon. But not in Pradeep's film."
The project being designed to bring the Bachchans together is "Bhairavi". Rakeysh Mehra has already scripted the film set against the backdrop of music and familial heritage. He plans to make it after his next project, the autobiographical "Delhi - 6", which stars Abhishek Bachchan. (Leading lady, contrary to rumours, undecided)
Abhishek Bachchan and Jaya BachchanAbout the ambitious opus, the Big B confirms: "Yes 'Bhairavi' is definitely in the pipeline. Rakeysh has already sounded us out. All three of us - Jaya, Abhishek and me - are agreeable. But since it's a very big project, it requires a great deal of planning. As of now, 'Bhairavi' is the only film bringing us together."
Incidentally, Jaya and Abhishek are not really 'together' in Pradeep Sarkar's film. Abhishek plays Rani's love interest. And Rani plays Jaya's daughter.
As one of Indian cinema's most formidable actresses reaches a milestone in her life, there will be no celebrations on the occasion. How unlike her husband Amitabh Bachchan's 60th birthday when there was a huge bash with the who's who of Mumbai attending. Jaya, alas, believes in no celebration. Her 60th birthday on 9 April will be very quiet affair restricted to her immediate family.
Says a source close to the Bachchans, "Firstly, she wouldn't have celebrated even if things were normal. But this time with the family mourning her mother-in-law's death, there's no question of any celebration. When you tell her turning 60 is an event she shrugs and says it's just another day."
Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have in fact, left for Miami where Abhishek Bachchan is shooting for Karan Johar's Dostana. It's Abhishek-Aishwarya's wedding anniversary on 20 April. While Aishwarya is expected to stay back until the anniversary, Big B and his wife will return after Jaya's birthday.
Says the Big B, "We're just going to be with Abhishek for a few days. It's Jaya's 60th birthday on the 9th. There will be no celebrations because of the death."
“I feel I am orphaned,” said Jaya Bachchan at the funeral ceremony of director Hrishikesh Mukherjee in Mumbai yesterday. the funeral was attended by several film personalities like Gulzar, Raju Hirani, Subhash Ghai amongst others. Hrishida had directed Jaya in her debut film ‘Guddi’ (A film that is my mother’s all time favourite even today). She went on to do classics like ‘Abhimaan’ and ‘Mili’ (Many consider it to be her best work till date). Many people may not know about the fact that when Jaya Bachchan was new to the city after completing her stint with the Film Institute in Pune, it was Hrishida who asked her to stay in his house. And it was he who introduced her to Amitabh Bachchan, her future husband.
While there is Jaya Bachchan as one end of the spectrum, it was a bit ironical to read about Rekha’s comments on Hrishikesh Mukherjee in today’s morning newspaper. She credits him with giving her a role of a life time in ‘Khoobsurat’. But in her characteristic ‘other woman’ style (Remember she was The Woh or is it woe in the Amitabh-Jaya marriage) she also mentioned in a subtle manner that ‘Amitji shared dirty jokes with Hrishida’. Now, that was totally uncalled for, especially when you are remembering someone after death. She went on to say that it was Hrishida who had introduced her to the culture of playing Holi. But, needlessly she added that the Holki parties hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother Teji Bachchan were unprecedented.
Now, these kinds of statements are not asked for. And she continues to add fuel to the rumour-mills about her passionate romance with Amitabh Bachchan which almost ended his marriage at one point of time. If it wouldn’t have been for that untimely accident on the sets of ‘Coolie’ (Where Big B almost died) and the extraordinary care Jaya Bachchan took of him, maybe this marriage wouldn’t have withstood the test of time. It’s time Rekha moved on…There’s more to life than being obsessed about a love affair that couldn’t reach its logical conclusion.
Aishwarya Rai, Bollywood's hottest bride, will take her new husband's famous name to become Aishwarya Bachchan, said her father-in-law, Indian superstar actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Rai, who married Abhishek Bachchan last weekend in a gala affair dubbed ``the wedding of the century,'' has already signed an autograph as Aishwarya Bachchan, the family patriarch told in an interview to a daily published on Thursday.
``She desires to use Bachchan as her surname,'' he said.
Bachchan also said the young couple would move in with him and his wife instead of getting a home of their own.
``This decision came voluntarily from Abhishek and Aishwarya,'' he said.
As for his daughter-in-law's film career, Bachchan said he hopes she'll continue starring in movies.
``Jaya and I have insisted that Aishwarya must continue with her acting career,'' he said. ``There is no problem or issue with us.''
Amitabh Bachchan's wife, Jaya, is also a famous actress who largely stopped working in films after getting married.
The marriage of Bollywood's two biggest stars has captivated the media for months, but Bachchan denied reports that photos from the wedding have been sold to a foreign magazine.
``No such offer has come and even if it did, we would reject it,'' he said.
Rai, 33, became famous when she was crowned Miss World in 1994 and is the brand ambassador for leading cosmetic companies. Her husband, Abhishek Bachchan, 31, is a popular romantic hero in his own right and is also part of Bollywood royalty.
2006/11/9 10:02:49 Rajya Sabha member and actress Jaya Bachchan will figure in an ad campaign against polio that will especially target Uttar Pradesh where 413 children have been afflicted with the crippling disease so far this year.
A total of 490 polio cases have surfaced in the country since January this year, with the maximum number of cases being reported from Uttar Pradesh.
"She has agreed to be a part of the pulse polio campaign in the state," Arun Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary, Medical and Health in UP, said over phone.
Mishra said Bachchan's campaign against polio is not scheduled before the November 12 pulse polio round.
"The ad campaign will start after the polio round. Initially, she will do commercials for television and radio. Later on if she has time, she will also visit areas which are the most affected like Moradabad and J P Nagar and encourgae parents to vaccinate their children against polio," Mishra said.
In Uttar Pradesh, where the virus was restricted to four districts, now has spread to 45 other areas.
While the Samajwadi Party MP's commercials will be restricted to UP, her husband and Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who is also UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for polio eradication and HIV/AIDS, is already coaxing parents on television across the nation to not to miss the polio vaccination.
Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar have been part of the pulse polio promotional programmes.
2011/9/17 15:44:06 Describing her support to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's fast as an "expression of goodwill", Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Saturday said there was no change in political dynamics and one should not read too much into it.
"He (Modi) spoke to me on telephone and asked me to send someone to felicitate his fast. So, I have sent two members of parliament, V. Maitreyan and M. Thambidurai," Jayalalithaa told news channel reporters here.
Modi announced the launch of a 'Sadbhavana mission' to strengthen social harmony by sitting on a fast for three days. He had attended the swearing-in ceremony of Jayalalithaa as chief minister in May.
"Narendra Modi is fasting for communal harmony, peace and unity. This is also in line with our policy of maintaining communal harmony and peace," she added.
Jayalalithaa, however, said that nothing much should be read into the gesture. "This does not mean there is change in political dynamics. It's just an expression of goodwill," she said.
The suspense over whether Amitabh Bachan will invite the Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the wedding of his son Abhisekh with Aishwarya Rai continues. It needs no mention that the first lady of politics and the legend of Bollywood are not in talking terms.
Their relationship has soured over the years with Amitabh getting closer to Mulayam. And everyone knows that Sonia cannot stand Mulayam. Jaya Bachan is also an elected member of the Rajya Sabha backed by Samajwadi Party.
Amitabh and Rajiv Gandhi were best friend at one time. Now it remains to be seen if Amitabh forgets the past and invites Sonia Gandhi for the wedding. And whether Sonia will accept the invitation and attend the wedding, which is being hyped as the wedding of the year.
Bollywood's big parivar, Big B, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwariya Rai Bachchan turned up at a party hosted by London's Mayor, Ken Livingstone in Mumbai. The glittering affair went all out boost cultural, educational and tourism initiatives between London and India.
The star of the show of course turned out to be the Big B, who incidently is also a personal favourite of the Mayor
"We are awarding Amitabh Bachchan for his contribution to Bollywood, a lovely ambassador for India. Mr Bachchan was also present in signing the agreement between the London film industry and Bollywood," said Livingstone.
"It's been great being invited by the Mayor of London in Mumbai. We had very fruitful meetings and we signed a memorandum between the respective film industries of our two nations," added Amitabh Bachchan, when it was his turn to speak.
And who can be better cultural ambassadors than those who can speak straight from the heart. Well, the Bachchan parivar certainly managed to do just that when they shared their fond memories of London.
"London was home to me for a year when I won the Miss World title," said Ashwariya Rai Bachchan
I love London because it was where I went with Jaya on our honeymoon," added the Big B.
Former Miss World turned Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is pregnant, her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan has revealed.
"NEWS NEWS NEWS !! I AM GOING TO BECOME A GRANDFATHER .. AISHWARYA EXPECTING .. SO HAPPY AND THRILLED !!!," the veteran megastar wrote on his Twitter account late on Tuesday.
Aishwarya Rai, 37, married Bachchan's actor son, Abhishek, 35, in April 2007.
The child will be their first and comes after weeks of media speculation in Indian gossip columns about the actress' fluctuating weight.
Bachchan Senior later said on the micro-blogging site that he was "overwhelmed" with the response to the news from followers and had received 2,843 Tweets of congratulation in just half an hour.
The pregnancy was confirmed earlier in the day, he wrote on his blog, bigb.bigadda.com, early Wednesday, adding: "There is joy and happiness around us," he added.
There was no immediate indication when the baby was due. The Bachchans - Amitabh, his actress wife Jaya, Aishwarya and Abhishek - are Bollywood's "first family" and have a fanatical following in India and around the world. His daughter, Shweta Nanda, has two children.
The suspense over whether Amitabh Bachhan will invit e the Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the wedding of his son Abhisekh with Aishwarya Rai continues. 2011/9/19 11:19:35 Ex Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh was arrested by CBI few days ago and later he was admitted in AIIMS Hospital as he developed some health complaints. That's when his close aide and Rajya Sabha member Jaya Pradha outcries that none of the big heads who were helped by Amar Singh is bothered to pay a visit to Amar Singh, when he is passing through his bad times. Although, she didn't name anyone in particular, she said if he opens his mouth many big heads from all sectors will fall in trouble. Yet, no one is bothered to meet him fearing CBI encircles them too into his case.
However, Big B Amitabh Bachchan has visited his close friend Amar Singh during his recent visit to New Delhi on Sunday. He was accompanied by his daughter Sweta Nanda. They both spent more than half an hour with Amar Singh in his private room in AIIMS. Doctors of AIIMS have confirmed Amitabh's meeting with Amar Singh.
Did Jaya Pradha's comments bring Amitabh Bachchan to hospital or he comes on his own to meet his close friend Amar Singh?
Is the ex-Samajwadi party MP Jaya Prada joining the congress party? Jaya Prada is now moving in that direction as her mentor Amar Singh is now in jail and there is no future for his newly formed party.
Jaya Prada met chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. She termed it as a mere courtesy call but sources in the congress say that she is planning to join the congress as she wants to return to Andhra Pradesh.
