Suhasini Maniratnam, has started a new television programme “Hasini Pesum Padam”, on Jaya TV (Thursday 9.30 to 10.30 pm) reviewing Tamil films. It is a bold and daring show in which Suhasini points out the plus and minus of each film.
Last week Hasini Pesum Padam featured the review of Sivaji in which she spoke about Shriya the heroine of the film. Suhasini says in the review that Shriya looks good in songs, but can’t emote or perform! Shriya has come in for criticism from Rajnikant fans who feel that she is the weakest heroine cast opposite him!
What made the one-hour programme interesting was that it was quite an honest assessment of the film. She said that the highlight of "Sivaji" is the "star power, charisma and child-like innocence of Rajnikant, plus the technical finesse”. On the downside, she said that the story is weak, nothing new as Shankar has told the same story in Muthalvan.
Make no mistake about it. Sivaji heroine Shriya is going places.
Shriya, who made a none-too-impressive debut in Tamil cinema with ‘Mazhai’, hit the jackpot when she bagged the role of superstar Rajnikant 's heroine in ‘Sivaji’.
To use a cliché, Shriya has not looked back since. Buoyed by the ‘Sivaji’ success, Shriya hopped over to Bollywood with Awarapan in which Emran Hashmi was her hero. It may not have set Bollywood on fire, but the film has become a big hit in Pakistan. In a way, Shriya's popularity has transcended national and cultural barriers!
The grapevine has it that Shriya has been snapped for another Hindi film with Vivek Oberoi in the male lead. The lovely lass has gone global, too by bagging a role in a Hollywood flick in which Jessy Metcalf is the hero.
In Kollywood, Shriya's next film is ‘Kandasamy’ against Anniyan fame Vikram . No wonder Ms Saran is all smiles. Why not? She richly deserves it.
2006/12/1 21:41:07 After getting the much coveted role as the superstar's heroine, Shriya is all set to become the dream girl of the masses, putting butterflies in the stomach of other aspiring dream girls.
In 'Enakku 20 Unakku 18,' Trisha is the main heroine and Shriya is the second heroine. Now, the situation is such that when leading actresses would give anything to appear in a scene with Rajini, the luck of becoming his heroine in 'Sivaji' went to Shriya.
Without being smug about her position, Shriya is busy contacting directors for acting opportunities. While other actresses loftily tell directors to contact their managers for call sheet, Shriya believes in working differently.
Shriya coolly calls up top Tamil directors like Bala, Gautham Menon and Dharani and asks if any project is available. She also gives her cell phone number with the words that she can be contacted any time about call sheet availability. A simple approach that bowls them over!
The other actresses are scared to pieces at Shriya's popularity already!
2006/11/16 13:25:55 Shriya who is presently pairing up with South Indian Super Star Rajanikanth in 'Sivaji' would appear on the Telugu screen in an item song again in a film 'Munna' being produced by Dil Raju on the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations under the direction of Vamsee Paidipalli with Prabhas as the hero. The song is now being choreographed in Hyderabad under the choreography of Raju Sundaram. This is the second item song for Shriya. It may be recalled that Shriya did an item song with Ram in 'Devadasu' released recently and proved a big hit. As Shriya gave bulk dates for 'Sivaji' she was forced to distance herself from the Telugu film industry for some time. However, she appeared in 'Boss' of Nagarjuna also. Coming to 'Munna', the film with Iliana as the female lead, is likely to be released in March 2007. Harris Jairaj is giving tunes for this flick.
One of the most popular and top actress in Tollywood and Kollywood, Shriya has always kept her personal life a secret. She has all along been giving an impression that she is not dating anyone. However it is well known to everyone that she has a steady boyfriend, a guy named Rajiv Mallu.
Shriya insists that she and Rajiv are just good friends and that there is nothing going on between them. However, according to the grapevine, Shriya was spotted in Hong Kong along with Rajiv Mallu. They are reportedly having a whale of a time.
Shriya is obviously overwhelmed with the response she is receiving from Rajini fans. Pairing up with the superstar in Sivaji, her popularity has staggered among Tamils in recent times. To top her delight, she is being addressed as Anni by the Rajini fans.
I am grateful for the attention and glad that Rajini fans are treating me as someone from their family, Shriya was quoted as saying.
Shriya recently watched the famous silent movie of Kamal, Pushpak, and seemed to be totally swept over by Kamal’s astounding performance. I have no words to describe about the movie and Kamalji’s role. Someday I would like to be associated with him, Shriya chimed to a news source.
Buzz is in the air that Bipasha Basu is the reason behind the split between Rana Daggubati and Shriya Saran.
According to the reports, the two after dating each other for 5 years have finally decided to split after Shriya learnt about Rana Daggubati’s closeness towards Bipasha Basu at the sets of “Dum Maaro Dum”.
Shriya’s fears were confirmed following the split between John and Bipasha. And now, the budding romance between Rana Dagubatti and Bipasha Basu is doing the rounds.
But Shriya is very furious with the fact that Bipasha and Rana are using her name for the publicity of their film “Dum Maaro Dum”.
Shriya stated “That’s horrible to be dragged into somebody else’s matter especially, when I am not romantically involved with anyone. I don’t know why they are using my name to publicize their film.”
The actress said further, “My parents are most upset. It’s very embarrassing to face them for something as obnoxious like this.”
With respect to her relationship with Rana, she stated “We have known each other since we were in school. We have the same set of friends and we hang out together.”
The actress said further, “That’s about it. Rana was never my boyfriend. I have been single and I am single.”
Tamil actress Shriya Saran's dream to act with superstar Rajnikant was fulfilled when she got an opportunity to play the female lead in his forthcoming release 'Sivaji'. Now she is nurturing another dream.
'I want to dance with Hrithik Roshan and Madhuri Dixit in a Hindi film,' said Shriya, who features prominently in the trailers of 'Sivaji', which has hit the big as well as small screens.
The trailer designed for theatres, different from the one for TV channels, includes a Rajni-Shriya song sequence and a scene in which she tells the superstar: 'I don't want to see your face again.'
Actress Suhasini enjoys the company of young people. "Like my uncle Kamal Hasan, I also enjoy working with youngsters. They are vibrant, energetic and try to learn as much as possible. These days, newcomers in the industry are very talented and willing to take up challenges. They exude confidence. Among the fresh talents, Sarvanand in 'Amma Cheppindi' and Navadeep in 'Seeta Koka Chilaka' have done a very good job. It's a pleasure working with them," says Suhasini.
Shriya is really going great guns. After the success of Sivaji, starring opposite Jesse Metcalfe in The Other End Of The Line is quite a leap for her acting career. But that's not the story. Apparently, the two are not only shooting for the film but bonding extremely well off-screen too.
If sources are to be believed, the couple has been frequently spotted at night clubs and restaurants. Only a few days back, Shriya was stranded at Frankfurt Airport after her flight was cancelled. Metcalfe, who was also in Germany at that time, went to the Frankfurt Airport to meet her and give her company.
More recently, they were spotted together during the New Year's Eve in Goa. A source close to Shriya reveals, "Metcalfe is totally smitten by Shriya. He finds excuses to meet her. Shriya has realised his liking for her."
Shriya clearly loves all the attention. She also accompanies Jesse to various places in the city as he is a newcomer. Another source from the sets of The Other End Of The Line says, "They are extremely fond of each other and are always together on the sets. They are more than just good friends." Shriya remained unavailable for comment.
A light hearted romantic comedy, The Other End Of The Line is being shot in Mumbai, San Francisco and New York and will release later this year. While Shriya Saran, Tara Sharma and Anupam Kher are some of the notable names Jesse is in the company of Larry Miller ( Kiss Kiss Bang Bang ) and Sara Foster ( The Big Bounce ).
Shriya Saran has signed on the dotted line to play Sarath Kumar’s daughter in his ambitious K.S Ravikumar project Jaggu Bhai.
The film is being produced by Radhika Sarath Kumar’s Raadan Media Works. The buzz is that Shriya has signed the film for a record amount.
Shriya was first offered the dual role of daughter and mother in the film. She made it clear that she was only interested in doing the daughter’s role. The film is said to be a “different take on father-daughter relationship”.
Sneha who was to play the mother’s role has opted out after Shriya was signed. And after she has decided to take the glam route (Pandi), Sneha is in no mood to play Shriya’s mom!
The shoot of Jaggu Bhai starts in the middle of June. Meanwhile a country wide search has started for somebody to play the glamorous wife of Sarath who plays a man in his early 40’s in the film.
2011/3/15 7:05:48 Kollywood film director Bhupathi Pandyan had a bitter experience from his heroine Shriya Reddy. He was directing a bilingual film in Tamil and Telugu produced by her husband Vikram Reddy under their home banner GK Film Corporation. It was decided in the agreement that, Shriya Reddy and Vishal will play the lead roles in this movie. But, all of a sudden, when she came to know that the director has replaced the hero with Arya, she burst with angry for his decision. Immediately, Shriya Reddy has kicked out the director out of her film and declared that she will start it with another director.
It seems the zodiac signs of hot babe Shriya are gradually turning in her favor at last. Her career reached to its peak when she pairs with Kollywood super star Rajinikanth in his Shivaji movie. But, it has neither helped the film makers nor Shriya in anyway. Ever since, the sexy siren of southern film industry Shriya is passing through her bad period until now. Recently, she got offer in Tamil film ‘Rodiram’ to be directed by debutant Gokul. Later, this film will be dubbed into Telugu also.
Then again recently she got another offer from Tollywood producer Vamsi Krishna. Shriya, Allari Naresh and Sarvanand will be playing lead roles in this movie. This film will be directed by Narayana under SVK Cinema banner. He said the story revolves around the three characters played by the trio. This film will go to sets in September month.
Suhasini is all set to wield the baton soon. She will direct a film in Tamil. The film will be produced by Prakash Raj. More details about the film are awaited. Prakash Raj has produced a couple of films and is known to give a chance to new comers to direct his films.
He gave a chance to Priya who worked as an assistant to noted director Mani Rathnam for his film 'Kandanal Madal'. Suhasini's earlier Tamil film 'Indira' won her a best director award from the Tamil Nadu government.
Southern film circuit’s sexy siren Shriya who is confined to item songs in Telugu films, is coming with ‘Fair and Lovely’ a dubbed version of her Tamil film ‘Chikubuku.’ Arya, Shriya and Prethika Rao have played the lead roles in this movie. Prethika Rao is younger sister of Bollywood actress Amrita Rao. This is her debut film. Kollywood director Manikantan has directed it and producer Ashok Vallabhaneni is dubbing this film into Telugu.
Shriya Saran never ceases to surprise you at regular intervals. The pretty actress who has become a rage and queen of Kollywood after the stupendous success of Rajnikanth's Sivaji , is now all set to do a Hollywood film! Last week the leading Hollywood studio MGM and Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park Film, have signed Shriya to be the heroine of their new film The other End of the Line for which shooting would start in the first week of November.
The other End of the Line is a romantic movie about an employee at an Indian call centre in Mumbai, who travels to San Francisco to be with the guy whom she falls in love over the phone, during her working hours.
Jesse Metcalfe, the handsome hunk of the television serial Desperate Housewives is playing the lead in the film. Jesse may become a major star in Hollywood, as his new action film Loaded releasing on November 1, worldwide carries good reports.
Our own Shriya is going to play heroine to Jesse, a tremendous boost for her, on par with Aishwarya Rai doing Provoked. Shriya who was last week shooting a special song with Vadivel for Indiralokathil Na Azhagappan, in Courtallam area, confirmed to Sify.com that she is going to do the Hollywood project.
It is a major break for Shriya, whose Azhagiya Tamil Magan, with Vijay releases this Diwali, and has also signed Kanthasamy with Vikram.
Till yesterday, she was like a shy hen. Now she's like a fighting rooster. We are referring to Shriya of 'Sivaji' fame.
Shriya's first Tamil film was 'Enakku 20 Unakku 18' where Trisha was the main heroine. Neither the film makers nor fans made much of her appearance in the film. Knowing it would be difficult to find a foothold in Tamil, Shriya moved to Telugu films where she tried to do some glamour roles. Producer SPB Charan called her back to do a Tamil film 'Mazhai' which unfortunately flopped.
Luckily for her, Rajini noticed her svelte good looks and she was signed on immediately as his heroine in 'Sivaji.' Her luck changed overnight. After 'Sivaji,' she was signed on for 'Thiruvilayadal' opposite Dhanush. She got offers pouring in. She had earlier taken what was offered. Now she's asking 40 lakhs per film, as for 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.'
When producers of a Bharath film approached her, she has shown 5 fingers - 10 lakhs per finger. Astounded out of their wits, the producers beat a hasty retreat.
Those in the know would like to caution her that too much
The sexy siren of southern film circuit Shriya who has been desperately waiting for a film offer all these days, has finally got one from Kollywood. It is film ‘Rodiram to be directed by debutant Gokul and will be made under Super Good Films banner. Except the lead pair Jeeva and Shriya most of the artists in this film are new faces. Later, this film will be dubbed into Telugu also. Hence, Shriya had a reason to be happy. Speaking to a Tamil movie magazine she said “I am not idle because I don’t get film offers. It is because nowadays I am very selective with my films. Hence, I have turned down many film offers during the last few months, because I don’t like the stories.” Hope she is telling truth.
2006/11/28 13:45:23 Of late, Shriya has been busy working with Rajnikant (Sivaji) and his son-in-law Dhanush (Thiruvilayadal).
Though she is tight-lipped about Sivaji, she cannot stop singing praises of the Tamil superstar.
"He (Rajnikant) may be a superstar, yet he is so down-to-earth and humble," Shriya says. "His punctuality and energy at this age would put any younger person to shame. The respect he gives to people on the sets is immense. His superstar status does not come in the way of helping an actor or complimenting a shot -- even before the director says so. It's been an honour and a learning experience working with him."
Thiruvilayadal, Shriya's Tamil film with Dhanush is a "cute, wacky fun college story."
The actress will also star in a film opposite Vijay.
Shriya will soon be seen in a Hindi film as well. She has signed Mahesh Bhatt's next production, Awaarapan, to be directed by Mohit Suri (Woh Lamhe, Kalyug, Zeher). It will costar Emraan Hashmi.
But the actress has not entirely ignored the Telugu film industry that first brought her fame.
She has made cameos in Boss (Nagarjuna) and Munna (Prabhas and Ileana).
"Nagarjuna is a good friend and V N Aditya (with whom she worked in Nenunnanu) is a rakhi brother. So I did the cameos for them," she says.
Heroines often carry a little bit excess baggage that consist their favorite dresses, shoes and cosmetics during their foreign tours. Earlier, Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Bachchan had some bitter experience at Dubai air port with her missing baggage. She even made some fuss about it with air port officials and managed to get back her baggage. This time, Tollywood hot babe Shriya has lost her baggage in the same location. She went to Dubai for her latest Malayalam movie ‘Casanova’ with Mollywood super star Mohanlal. She complained to air port officials but they fail to trace out her missing baggage. Unlike Aishwarya, Shriya patiently waits for more than an hour in the air port lounge for her baggage. Finally, when the officials fail to trace out her baggage and told her that if they find her baggage they will send to the shooting spot, Shriya left the place without uttering a word at them. Airport officials were so pleased with her polite manner that they have assured her to compensate for it, if she agrees. It’s learnt that, Shriya neither accepted their offer nor get her stuff back until now.
