New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) She gulps down 'desi tharra', smokes pot, mouths expletives, talks naughty, exposes like never before and doesn't mind some sultry moves -- that's the new age, raunchy, naughty and bold Hindi film heroine for you.
From the "Chhor do anchal zamana kya kahega" coy woman to the "I'm too sexy for you" babe - the Bollywood heroine has come of age.
Be it Nargis Fakhri's desire to drink tharra and watch soft porn in "Rockstar", Vidya Balan's sensual and titillating looks in "The Dirty Picture", Sonam Kapoor's confident display of the middle finger in "Players", Katrina Kaif's drunken act in "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" or even Rani Mukerji's uninhibited mouthing of expletives in "No One Killed Jessica" - the bold drift is wide and visible on the big screen.
"Basically, cinema reflects what happens in society. So the homemaker, subservient, silent sufferer and 'pativrata' woman of yesterday, was what was shown in Hindi movies earlier. But as times changed and society became more democratic and liberal, the woman's portrayal underwent a change on the big screen too," film critic Omar Qureshi told IANS.
"Today, women live with the 'double income, no kids' mantra, they go to work, some don't mind living life alone, some don't mind extramarital affairs...they socialise, party, drink and smoke...so that is clearly reflecting in cinema as well," added Qureshi.
Some other films with actresses in bold roles include "Delhi Belly", "Ishqiya", "Shaitan", "Tanu Weds Manu", "Jism", "Saat Khoon Maaf", "Dum Maro Dum" and "Girlfriend". In some, girls were shown consuming drugs and locking lips with the same sex.
Young producer Ekta Kapoor has pinned her hopes on "The Dirty Picture", in which a saucy Vidya is seen telling co-star Tusshar Kapoor: "Mujhe jo chahiye uska mazza raat ko hee aata hai". But she feels yesteryear films were more titillating.
"My film 'The Dirty Picture' is about a woman revelling in her sexuality. There is a very definite line between sexuality and raunchiness, and our story is about this woman who lived her life with aplomb. It is a brave and bold performance, no doubt, but one needs to see how actresses are getting more comfortable in their skin nowadays," Ekta told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
"Earlier, actresses used to play so-called 'sati savitris' and used to be covered in wet dupattas or saris. I think that used to look more suggestive and raunchy," she added.
When acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Gupta made romantic Rani mouth cuss words and smoke in "No One Killed Jessica", he had explained: "The abuses have been used to define attitude and not in a derogatory sense. These days abuses are a part and parcel of conversational language and we didn't feel that there was any harm in using them."
The trend is only becoming rampant for many reasons - viewer's open-mindedness, directors' daring attitude to show a realistic portrayal, actress' confidence and producers' risk-taking ability.
"The sexy and bold woman was restricted only to the vamp in Indian films earlier. She would do the seducing act back then because a heroine was to be shown doing all 'ideal' things. At that time, producers didn't want to take a chance by showing a heroine doing 'bad' things and plus. Nowadays the audience is also more exposed - so they have a wider perspective about women and their sexuality," said Qureshi.
Writer-actor Manu Rishi, who penned dialogues for films like "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye" and "Aisha", says stories of the 'bad and naughty one' always turn out to be attention-grabbers.
"Whether or not anyone likes it, it is an interesting, exciting and controversial trend. It makes a film more saleable. Once, Urdu writer Sadat Hassan Manto was asked: why don't you write about homebound women? Why do you always write about prostitutes? So he said: 'Gharelu aurton ke baare mein kuch likhne laayak nahin hota (There's nothing worthwhile writing about homebound women).'
"He said it because no one wants to either read about homemakers; neither does anyone want to write about them. Now if both heroines of 'Dev D' were asked to talk like Juhi Chawla spoke in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' or like Bhagyashree did in 'Maine Pyar Kiya', imagine how they would sound!
"Just like a sharp-tongued girl causes a crowd on the streets, films with such female characters draw a huge crowd."
2011/4/1 14:24:41 The naughty Bollywood star Govinda’s latest film ‘Naughty @40’ was struck in a legal case. Its producer Anuj Sharma owes Rs.1.32 crores to his co-producer Sundeep Kapoor. But, when he fails to return it even after 3years, Sundeep has filed a petition in Delhi High Court against Sharma appealing the court to stop the film release until he was cleared of his debt. Hence, the court has stayed the release of the film, with which producer Sharma obliged to deposit Rs. 1 crore to the court. The court has given him one week time to deposit the balance amount and ordered for the release of the film.

Former Ponds Femina Miss India and the 2005 Miss World Tourism, Sonal Chauhan, is now better known as the JANNAT girl. In the Bhatt camp movie, Sonal plays the character of a middle class but bold girl, Zoya.
However, like a true self respecting Rajputani, Sonal is quite forthright about her bold role opposite the on-screen serial kisser, Emraan Hashmi! She elaborates that bold does not mean only skin show. According to Sonal, her bold role symbolizes her bold thinking and a carefree attitude in JANNAT.
The Kunal Deshmukh directed JANNAT is all set to open well on May 16th, thanks to its interesting, innovative and topical promos and also due to its hit music by the lucky music director Pritam Chakraborty and also Kamran Ahmad.

She's adding a new twist to an old classic and actor Urmila Matondkar's moves in Ram Gopal Varma's version of the classic Mehbooba song remind you of her hey days when she ruled the Bollywood item number game.
Mehbooba is also the first time she will share screen space with the Big B and while recreating Helen's steps was never on her mind, she is, nevertheless, nervous about the response that this song will bring her.
"The excitement soon turned to nervousness as it is such a challenge to take on this song that in itself, is perfect,” said Urmila.
Her long run down Versova beach for Ramu's Rangeela had her labeled as the bold and sexy heroine of the 90s.
Today’s Bollywood brigade of the bold and the beautiful has cottoned on to the same formula. So what's her take on the item girls today?
"I really don't have any interest in talking about them as I am sure everyone is attempting to carve their own niche. As for me, I got tagged with something with each new film because I had always maintained my on screen dignity in every role I played,” said Urmila.
Ask her about her dwindling number of films and attempts at serious cinema, and pat comes the reply about no good scripts.
"In a short span of time I have done so much variety that now I have to get something really challenging to take up a film,” she said.
Hero Nagarjuna continues to be the most sought after actor and many heroines vie with one another to star along with him in a film. Nagarjuna has been asked several times as to who was his favorite heroine. He had been all along giving some diplomatic answers.
Now, perhaps for the first time, Nagarjuna has made a bold admission. Nagarjuna said that his favourite heroine was Tabu. She is not only his favourite heroine but will remain so forever and ever. Nagarjuna said diplomatically that Amala was not his favourite heroine but his favourite person. Nagarjuna's statement was no big surprise but it must have surely warmed the cockles of Tabu's heart.
Call it coincidence, but it seems like sex and sexuality are making their presence felt in a much bigger way in Bollywood this weekend. The coming Friday will see as many as six films releasing, four of whom pander to the element in one way or another.
The biggest titles turning films in question are 'Naughty @ 40', 'Men Will Be Men', 'Queens! Destiny of Dance' and 'I AM'. No wonder, it seems like a record in the making.
"It is unbelievable", says a trade veteran, "It used to be such a phenomenon in the 80s when a flurry of adult movies would arrive in one go. However they were restricted to the morning shows. Now with multiplexes coming in, films have been re-packaged to make it all look like a classy affair."
The first one, 'Naughty @ 40', which aims to be Govinda's next biggie on-screen, makes no bones of the fact that it is a sex comedy. Director Jagmohan Mundhra said, "Yes, Naughty @ 40 is a sex comedy. Why deny that when it is actually a fact". The film will see says Jagmohan Mundhra, the film's director, who has cast Govinda in the role of a 40 year old virgin who still dreads the 'S' word.
'I AM', a composite film, focuses on sexuality too. Out of the four stories that comprise the film, there are there is a story which refers to child abuse and its repercussions and another that looks at gay partners.
The real surprise of the week is a film called 'Men Will Be Men' which seems to have arrived out of nowhere. “A film about four youngsters who head towards Pattaya (near Bangkok) to have their share of action, tit is yet another film to have sex as an integral part of what goes on in the mind of men, hence the film's title", says an industry insider. However the film's director Gorky, a debutant, does acknowledge that the film is abound with 'suggestive dialogues and jokes'.
"If this wasn't crowded enough then wait as there is more", a trade follower adds, "There is also this small time film called Queens! Destiny of Dance which would try to make its presence felt in the coming week. This one is a film about the third sex, the transgender. Thankfully though it doesn't present them as comic characters and instead takes a realistic look at the issues faced by transgender people in the country."
Wonder what are Tusshar Kapoor and Lara Dutta thinking about the competition, as they get ready with their own Shor In The City and Chalo Dilli in the same week. "I am not worried actually. Our film is all set to stand out. It has a class of it's own", says Tusshar. Well, one would agree with you on this one at the least Tusshar.
Due to its elongated schedule in London and then after that some production issues caused the movie Naughty @ 40 a two year delay. Due to which the lead of the movie Govinda has accepted the signing amount but foregone all the other later remunerations.
Govinda is now keen that the project sees the light of the day. For which he actually went out of the way to ensure that the shoot is completed and he is now taking interest in the post also. He is going out of the way to ensure that the movie gets a theatrical release. Thanks to his interest that the project is back on track.
This film also stars Yuvika Chaudhry & Sayali Bhagat. Its all about a 40 year old virgin (Govinda)who arrives from London to India to find a suitable match for himself before its too late. Before finalising Yuvika Chaudhry, Aisha Takiya and Amrita Rao were also considered for the role essayed by Yuvika.
Another beauty queen has got her foot in the door to tinsel town.
Nikita Anand , who won the Sunsilk Femina Miss India-Universe tiara in 2003, will make her Bollywood debut in a campus love story.
This 5-feet-8-inches tall beauty was born to a colonel father in Jalandhar but was brought up in several cities like Delhi, Pune, Ranchi and Mumbai. Currently, Nikita is the hostess of the popular car race show called ‘NASCAR’ on Zee Sports.
Nikita is entering Bollywood with a rather bold role in Prakash Jha-produced movie, tentatively titled ‘Love Story’. She was finalized in an audition that had at least a dozen Bollywood aspirants contending for the role.
In the film, Nikita plays a rich girl who lives a life of indulgence – smoking cigarettes, flirting and partying till late night. Her co-star in the film is Shreyas Talpade (of Iqbal ) who plays a poor guy in the film.
Naseeruddin Shah’s son Imaad Shah also plays an important role in the film.
Nikita says although she comes from a traditional family background, she has no issues in playing bold roles and even showing a bit of skin “if the role requires it.”
About her future Bollywood plans, Nikita says she wants to “take it slow.”
‘Love Story’ is a campus romance story being directed by Manish Tiwari.
2011/2/26 16:35:16 Don’t be hurry to read some spicy story about some heroine who is engaged in flesh business. This is about a Bollywood heroine who is playing a prostitute role and gone to ‘Red Light’ area in Mumbai to study the body language and the behavior etc of the prostitutes. she is Bollywood No.1 heroine Priyanka Chopra. Recently she made a brief tour to Red Light area and learned the ‘necessary things’ from the prostitutes. She is acting as a prostitute in Hindi film ‘Agni Path’ in which Bollywood handsome hero Hrithik Roshan is playing the lead role. Karan Johar is directing this film. But, the question is does she really need a training
2010/11/30 15:59:30 The latest buzz is Tollywood beauty Ileana got an offer from Bollywood and she has agreed for it. The title of the movie is ‘Burfe.’ “Either Priyanka Chopra or Asin may play the first heroine role against Ranabeer Kapoor in this film,” says the director Anurag Basu. If, Priyanka Chopra is selected as first heroine then, there will be no objections for Ileana to play the second heroine’s role because she is not a competitor for her at home. But, if Asin bags the chance to play the first heroine role, then Ileana surely will think twice before signing the film, because back at home Ileana is in leading position, where as Asin is struggling to upkeep her position. If, Ileana prepares to act as second heroine to Asin, merely for Bollywood entry it may degrade her position at home. So, there is probability of Ileana rejecting the offer if her competitor Asin plays the first heroine role.
2008/2/20 12:41:51 The bold and bubbly air hostess of Garam Masala, Nargis, has dared to play a deglamourised role in her second film itself. Nargis plays the lead role in Pranali, a film that traces the journey of a devdasi forced into prostitution. “It’s a different subject and I am not just saying it. It’s quite bold and hard-hitting,” says Nargis. Ask her to justify her long hiatus post Garam Masala and she says, “It’s not like I wasn’t offered work. It was just not worthwhile.” She adds, “I’m all set to do another film with Priyadarshan soon.”
Poonam Pandey, who grabbed headlines with her promise to go nude to celebrate team India's World Cup win, has been flooded with offers from Bollywood but the swim suit model says she will not strip onscreen.
The model attracted criticism with her offer, which she claims was declined by BCCI. But it has helped her land a spot on stunt reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi on Colors.
The model says she has been offered film roles and item songs in Bollywood but does not believe that her bold image will have a negative impact on her acting dreams.
"I don't think that my bold image will hamper my career. My decision to go naked was for my nation and not a cheap publicity stunt. That does not mean that I will strip in Bollywood. I want to act just like any other actress," Poonam told PTI.
The 19-year-old claims that despite some brickbats, many people came out to support her decision.
"After I said that I will strip, there were a lot of people who supported and understood my sentiments. I don't understand why few people had to behave like the way they did and create an issue out of nothing," she said.
Poonam, who faced the camera for the first time during Gladrags and went on to become a Kingfisher model, says she is keen on working in films and wants to become a successful actor.
For now, Poonam wants to focus on Khatron Ke Khiladi 4, hosted by Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. The show will be shot in Cape Town, South Africa.
"I am preparing myself for the show, I practice underwater swimming. It is very different from other reality shows. They are just fake," she said.
Poonam is also looking forward to meet Akshay, who has been her favourite since childhood.
"I have been watching his films since childhood. He is a great actor. I am looking forward to meet him," she added.
2011/9/26 15:03:35 Mahie Gill is looking for an image makeover -- so far she has played intense roles, but now the actress wants to try out a typical masala movie or a comedy.
"I want to explore myself. I want to do a comedy or a masala film. In this profession, you get to play so many roles, you get to travel so much, you get to meet different kind of people," Mahie told IANS.
Although the actress, who forayed into Bollywood with "Dev D", says she is happy with the way her career has shaped up but added: "Everything has been very interesting and exciting, but it has not been easy though. The kind of work I was expecting after 'Dev D' and 'Gulaal', I didn't get the kind of work I wanted to do."
"After 'Dev D' people started portraying me as a bold actor - whatever offer I got, I didn't go for it. I was getting commercial films, but the roles I wanted to do, I was not getting it. Every role wanted me to be bold," added Mahie who also features in "Pan Singh Tomar".
She will next be seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia's "Sahib Biwi Gangster", which also stars Jimmy Shergill and Randeep Hooda. (IANS)
The hunt for Hrithik Roshan's leading lady in his next home production is getting more intense. The latest to be checked out by director Anurag Basu is Channel V anchor Bruna Abdullah aka VJ Mia.
However, Basu denies Bruna has been pencilled in for the Hrithik project.
He told IANS: "I don't deny meeting her, like we've met so many other girls for the part. But Bruna hasn't been finalised. But it'll surely be an international face."
"It'll be a Spanish speaking girl. We want to show love has no barriers," added Rakesh Roshan who is producing the yet-untitled thriller.
Several names have been put forward. Apparently, Rakesh Roshan, who is very close to Anil Kapoor and quite fond of Anil's daughter Sonam, wanted to cast her.
Sonam, conscious of her conservative image, begged off because the role requires the girl to get seriously sexy with Hrithik.
"I'd love to work with Sonam, but not on this project. The role doesn't do justice to her. We're looking at someone from abroad, someone Latin American or Brazilian. So, yeah, in that sense this would be my first international project," said Hrithik.
Basu confirms that the role is quite bold.
"We've looked at many names, known and new in Bollywood. But that 'it' factor eludes us. I'm getting quite jittery. The girl's role is extremely bold. Actually, we've decided to cast someone international, preferably Brazilian, because that's the personality and profile of the leading lady in my film."
2012/4/21 13:50:41 The Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has a few scenes in her upcoming film Heroine where she will be seen pregnant. There were some photos of her with a bulging belly raising speculations about her pregnancy.
Also,Vidya Balan was seen as a pregnant woman in Kahaani. Manisha Koirala had a similar scene in Mani Ratnam’s Bombay.
Bhandarkar posted on micro blogging site Twitter -“Guys lets not speculate. Its for REEL & not real!!! Its for a scene in my film #Heroine. Its FAKE!!! (sic)”.
The film Heroine will hit the screens on September 14.
2007/11/30 12:03:40 The young heroine Monali Chowdary made her debut in Shekhar Kammula’s film ‘Happy Days’. Her role as Sangeetha got her wide spread recognition. She bagged a role in the TV serial ‘Yuva’ produced by Nagarjuna in association with MAA TV.
But after acting in some episodes, she suddenly decided to opt out of the serial. She says that she wants to concentrate on her career in Tollywood and hence has decided to stop working in TV serials. This is certainly a bold decision, as she is just one film old in the industry.
Sayali Bhagat, the diva termed to be Miss-India World in 2004, is one such actress who has direct competition with the likes of Mallika Sherawat, Tanushree Dutta and few Bolly-babes when it comes to performing bold in front of the camera.
The glam-girl followed the ritual of getting into Bollywood after been crowned as Femina Miss India and proved in her debut film The Train, itself, that she is ready to expose to the length the Indian Censor Board permits her to do.
And who would have been a better co-star than our kissing king Emraan Hashmi to accompany her in performing some real smoochy and juicy scenes in the film.
Sayali isn’t just seductive in her on-screen appearance but also bold enough to talk her heart out.
“Emraan is a gem of a person. It was really a great opportunity to have him as an onscreen husband and to kiss him,” says Sayali Bhagat.
The model-turned-actress seems to have a great fascination for cricketers. Where Sayali proposed to Rahul Dravid on television, few days later, she repeated the same stuff with Irfan Pathan.
At the moment the young girl is waiting for her south flick Blade Balaji to get released. As far as Bollywood is concerned her fans would have to wait for some more time to see more of this sensuous actress.
She is gorgeous and she is undoubtedly sexy. But Neha Oberoi says she isn’t open to doing bold scenes in films.
Flaunting her anatomy is not something Neha wants to do to make her mark in Bollywood. She has already caught a couple of eyes with her role in the ‘Lovedale’ episode of Sanjay Gupta’s Dus Kahaniyaan .
Progressing further under the protective wing of her mentor Sanjay Gupta , Neha will now be seen in her first full-length Hindi feature film Woodstock Villa that introduces Sikander Kher , son of Anupam Kher .
Though Neha has shot a couple of scenes in revealing outfits in the film and has also done a few intimate scenes with Sikander, the gorgeous belle says she is not game for steamy roles.
"I am a glamorous girl but I am not open to doing bold scenes. I am not comfortable doing kissing scenes or shedding clothes on screen," Neha is quoted as saying by a news agency.
Even though she has acted in a South Indian film and ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’, Neha considers ‘Woodstock Villa’ as her big screen debut.
"I consider it as my debut film because this was the first Hindi film that I signed," Neha is quoted as saying.
In ‘Woodstock Villa’, Neha plays wife of Arbaaz Khan . She, however, plans her own kidnapping because she wants to test his love. Things get complicated when the kidnapper turns out to be a handsome Casanova (Sikander) for whose charm she falls.
‘Woodstock Villa’ is made under the banner of White Feather Films and is directed by Hansal Mehta .
