Udit Narayan keen to settle dispute with 'first wife'

As popular Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan is keen to arrive at a compromise with a woman who claims to be his first wife, Bihar state women's commission Wednesday gave him more time to depose before it to respond to her charges.

Udit Narayan's lawyer informed the women's panel that the singer was keen for a compromise and settlement, commission chairperson Manju Prakash told reporters here. The lawyer requested for a week's time for that and the commission decided to grant it, she said.

Udit Narayan Wednesday failed to appear before the commission for the fourth time in two months after the commission registered a case of breach of marriage against him and issued a notice on the basis of a complaint filed by Ranjana Narayan in April.

Ranjana, a resident of Nirmali village in Supaul district, claimed that she is the first wife of the popular singer. According to her, they had married in 1984 and his second wife Deepa Narayan was not his legal wife.

Meanwhile, the commission's decision to give more time to Udit Narayan raised eyebrows here.

"The commission has taken a U-turn by granting him more time. This is contrary to the stand it had taken earlier this month when it had threatened to issue a warrant against him if he failed to appear Wednesday," said a woman activist who was helping Ranjana fight for her rights.

Udit Narayan, on his part, has denied Ranjana's allegation. He has told media that he did not know "any Ranjana Narayan" and had never married her, saying it was a conspiracy to defame him.

Udit Narayan tried to blackmail me, says 'first wife'

    2006/7/7 15:03:26

A woman claiming to be Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan's first wife alleges the singer called her up twice last week and tried to blackmail her emotionally.

Ranjana, who has kicked up a controversy over claims that she was married to Udit Narayan, says he had made the calls after his five-hour-long closed-door talks with her on June 30 to thrash out a compromise.

"He told me that Deepa, his second wife, is very clever and she has transferred all his property in her name and he was under tremendous pressure," Ranjana told IANS. "But I told him that I only want my rights and respect as your wife, nothing more. I do not want money."

On Wednesday, the Bihar state women's commission put an embargo on the singer's foreign visits after he failed to appear before it for the sixth time in the last two months.

The commission gave Udit 15 more days to appear before it to clarify or explain his move for a compromise with Ranjana.

Ranjana, a resident of Nirmali village in Supaul district, claims she married the singer in 1984, and his present wife, Deepa Narayan, was not his legal wife.

Ranjana said she was also shocked and hurt by his referring to her as "lady", instead of Ranjana or as "wife".

"It is very unfortunate. It again exposed his double standards when he termed me as this lady. And it was just five days ago that Udit Narayan invited me for a closed-door long talk to arrive at a compromise, but he has forgotten so soon," she said.

"It hurt me deeply when a mediaperson informed me that Udit Narayan in an interview on Wednesday referred to me as 'the lady'."

Ranjana said that she did not believe in his words any more and doubted his intentions. She said she would not oppose any move by the commission to issue a production warrant against Udit.

Manju Prakash, chairperson of the commission, said the commission had decided not to allow Udit to go abroad unless he personally appears before the commission. She said that he was to visit Germany July 6-22 but would now not be allowed to leave the country.

The commission had on July 1 issued a summons notice to Udit Narayan and Ranjana to appear before it by July 5 to clarify their moves to arrive at a compromise.

The singer's lawyer told the commission that he was keen for a compromise and settlement with the woman who was claiming to be his first wife. He had reportedly approached her for this and initiated moves in this direction.

Udit Narayan has so far denied Ranjana's claim. He told the media in April that he did not know "any Ranjana Narayan", and had never married her. He alleged it was a conspiracy to defame him.

However, two days ago he had said "the lady's sister is married to my brother".

Udit Narayan files complaint against media persons

    2006/7/29 21:15:42

Bollywood singer Udit Narayan Saturday lodged a complaint against some media persons for allegedly assaulting and abusing him when he was leaving the Bihar women's commission office here after admitting for the first time that Ranjana Jha was his first wife.

Narayan had accepted Jha as his wife Friday in a written statement to the commission.

"I recognise and accept Ranjana Jha as my wife and promise to look after her and to provide her maintenance," he told the commission.

Prior to his assurance, Narayan had been denying Ranjana's claim and had repeatedly told the media that he did not know "any Ranjana", and had never married her. He alleged it was a conspiracy to defame him.

Sources close to the singer said that he filed the complaint in Kotwali police station here against some reporters of the electronic media.

In April this year Jha claimed that she was legally wedded to Narayan and lodged a complaint with the commission seeking justice and rights of a wife after Narayan denied that she was his wife.

Even last month Jha was shocked and hurt by Narayan who referred to her as "lady", instead of Ranjana or as "wife".

The commission fixed July 28 as the last date for Narayan to appear before it to clarify or explain his move for a compromise with Jha. The commission's decision followed his invitation to Jha for a closed-door talk to arrive at a compromise.

Jha, a resident of Nirmali village in Supaul district, claims she married the singer in 1984, and his present wife, Deepa Narayan, was not his legal wife.

    Udit summoned again

    2006/7/22 16:30:35

The Bihar State Commission for Women has summoned Bollywood playback singer, Udit Narayan Jha, to appear before it on July 28 at 12.30 pm in the Ranjana Jha case.

Chairperson of the commission Manju Prakash, who had earlier given 15 days time, which ended on Friday, to both Udit and Ranjana so that they can arrive at a "meaningful reconciliation" and had asked the singer not to leave the country in this period, said Udit has to appear before the commission on July 28 failing which a case of bigamy would be lodged against him.

Manju Prakash said the commission has enough evidence against Udit required for filing a bigamy case. It may be recalled that Ranjana Jha, a resident of Supaul, claims herself to be Udit's first wife.

Ranjana had knocked the doors of the commission seeking justice which was nothing less then due recognition to her as Udit's wife. The commission hearing the prayer of Ranjana had issued summons to the singer to appear before it, but every time Udit had failed to comply with its order.

Manju Prakash said the commission was not against an out of the court settlement between Udit and Ranjana, but also did not forget to mention that in this fortnight nothing concrete had taken place.

Asked as to why she was setting a deadline for Udit, Manju Prakash said the commission had given enough time to the singer, but every time he had failed to appear on the due date resulting in waste of precious hours of the commission.

She said though the prime responsibility of the commission was counselling, it was in no mood to waste time over the case as several other important cases were pending disposal.

Yukta Mookhey gyrates to Bhojpuri item number

    2007/1/3 16:32:59

    Sad, but true.

After making a disastrous debut in 'Pyaasa' years back where she starred opposite Aftab Shivdasani, her Bollywood career moved nowhere. Some aborted projects and a 'Katputtli' later she has now set her sights on Bhojpuri films. She makes her debut there with an item song for the film 'Kab Kahaba Tu I Love You' which is a film by Udit Narayan.

Nothing wrong with anything stated above except for the fact that the item number she is seen in is downright tacky. With someone like Yukta, one expected a better presentation on screen but in the song she comes across as just another imported-from-Mumbai newcomer item girl who is desperate to find her few moments of glory on celluloid.

'Kab Kahaba Tu I Love You' stars Amar Upadhyay along with new find Gul with Udit Narayan doing a cameo with wife Deepa Narayan.

    ‘Pourudu’ and Jayaprakash Narayan

    2008/1/15 17:33:15

The film ‘Pourudu’ starring Sumanth and Kajal in the lead is doing fairly well. The film however is close to the principles and philosophy of the Lok Satta chief Jayaprakash Narayan. H is reported to be keen to watch the film. In fact, Jayaprakash seems to be some inspiration for the film. All that Jayaprakash says and does in real life is reflected to a considerable extent in the film.

Jayaprakash still believes in the system and hopes that that the system will take care of everything. It is only the mindset of some bad politicians that is the stumbling block to development.

Aditya Narayan reunites with his first singing cos

    2007/5/7 9:54:21

When last week 19-year old Aditya Narayan finally stood on stage to host Zee's music-talent show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, it was a moment of huge reckoning for him. The inimitable Asha Bhosle was watching him closely.

Says Aditya, "I'm 19, and I agree I'm from a musical family. Also, I've had considerable experience on stage with my father. But to have stalwarts like Ghulam Ali and Asha Bhosle watching me as I got a hang of my first full-fledged job as an anchor was an unsettling experience."

"Ashaji and I go back a long way," chuckles the affable Aditya. "I've been lucky enough to sing with her for A. R. Rahman in Rangeela and Taal as a child. Tell me, which kid has had this privilege. And now there she was in person smiling and observing me carefully."

Ashaji found Aditya cute. That made the debutant anchor's day and year. "When I had sung with Ashaji I was too young to know what it meant. But now, to have occupied the same space as her and to have her encourage me so warmly I couldn't have hoped for a more auspicious start to my career as an anchor."

To make Aditya even more nervous there was his father dropping in unannounced to check out how sunny-boy was doing. "If Papa had told me he was coming I'd have asked him not to. I knew I'd feel so self conscious in front of him! So he quietly finished recording his TV show Indian Idol and dropped in on our Sa Re Ga Ma Pa set to watch me from a hidden corner."

Aditya feels blessed. "Ghulam Ali Saab, Ashaji and my father (Udit Narayan), it was as though the heavens were blessing me. Yeah, I think I'll do okay as an anchor."

    Man kills wife, four daughters

2011/11/12 17:10:59 (IANS) A man hacked his four minor daughters and wife to death in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, police said. He has been arrested.

Even as police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the killings, preliminary investigations indicate a marital dispute could be the reason.

Deenanath Tiwari, 39, killed his wife Shiakali, 37, and four daughters - aged 4-10 years - with an axe at his house in Poorakalandar town.

"We have learnt that Shiakali had strained relations with Deenanath. He often used to beat Shiakali and his four daughters. It appears Deenanath had a verbal duel with his wife, and thereafter committed the killings in a fit of rage," Police Inspector A.K. Mishra told reporters in Faizabad, some 120 km from Lucknow.

"After hearing shrieks from Tiwari's house, locals rushed there and spotted the five family members lying in a pool of blood. Before they could be taken to a hospital, all the five had died. Locals caught Deenanath hiding in a corner of the house and handed him to the police," he added.

SRK Raps in Khaike Paan Banaras Wala

    2006/9/1 17:26:46

Shahrukh Khan’s has turned an Eminem cousin by expertly rapping in the retro track ‘Khaike Paan Banaraswala’. The track starts off with Udit Narayan matching steps with Kishore Kumar magic of yore. The dhinchak beat goes on and on. And then SRK makes his entry in style.

Ek Naar Naweli Kare Atkheli, Badi Albeli, Uski Badi Dhoom Hai Aisi…Must say Shahrukh sounds much better than his earlier experience with singing in Mansoor Khan’s ‘Josh’ where he sang ‘Apun Bola’ to Anu Malik’s music. The energy level and exuberance quotient is at an all time high. I think SRK will have lot more offers to sing coming his way after this one….

2011/9/6 18:39:29 The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing over the sharing of Vamsadhara river water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Orissa to September 20.

The apex court directed the Andhra Pradesh and Orissa governments to submit a report within one week on the infrastructural facilities provided to the tribunal to complete the hearings.
