M.F. Husain's muse, Madhuri Dixit, who fascinated him so much that he became a filmmaker and cast her alongside Shah Rukh Khan in his debut film, Gaja Gamini (2000), is very sad over the iconic painter's demise away from home.
“It's a very sad day for me today... His paintings not only came from his heart, but also from the knowledge about various topics,” she told a TV news channel.
Asked whether Indian artists should have rallied around him with more enthusiasm when he was targeted by right-wing groups, she said, “I think something should have been done in an organised way. Maybe something should have been done, something should have been said. But it didn't happen.”
On his stay abroad, she said: “I am sure that he did miss the country. He didn't say so openly to me, but I knew from the way he used to talk, remember India, talk about the different celebrations...He used to talk about all these things.
“I feel sad that he was born in India but couldn't breathe his last here.”

New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit, who shifted base to Denver in the US after marrying Shriram Nene 12 years ago, is returning to India permanently.
"For all my fans, we are relocating to India! It will be good to be back home," Madhuri wrote on microblogging site Twitter.
Madhuri tied the knot with Shriram Madhav Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon in 1999 and left her acting career to shift to Denver soon after. Post-marriage, Madhuri featured only in one film "Aaja Nachle" in 2007, as she got busy with family, including two children.
This year, the actress came to India for three months to judge the fifth season of dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa". After that she has been flooded with offers.
2006/12/13 16:04:05 Actress Madhuri Dixit visited Siddhi Vinayaka temple in Central Mumbai’s Prabhadevi area along with her husband Dr Sriram Nene and two sons-Arin and Ryan- to offer prayers to Lord Ganesha.
Madhuri holidaying with her family here is currently shooting for her comeback film, directed by veteran Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra. The movie is slated for a mid-2007 release.
In October 1999, Madhuri married Los Angeles-based cardiac surgeon Dr Nene. Though she never officially quit Bollywood, her long stay in Los Angeles made it impossible for her to sign many film projects in India.
In spite of this, she gave 2002’s hit movie Devdas, along with Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai. Madhuri kept shuttling between India and the US and completed her all her projects.
It has been reported that Dr Nene is also planning to settle in India by early next year. For the time being, Madhuri is thinking to get her elder son enrolled in a Mumbai school.
The buzz is that Bollywood’s former numero uno Madhuri Dixit may star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in her comeback film to be directed by Yash Chopra .
Yes, reports are that Chopra will be putting together his next directorial venture with Madhuri and SRK in the lead roles in January.
It may be recalled that Madhuri has been eager to stage a comeback to acting but she has maintained time and again that she would want to give her children (Ryan and Arin) the first priority.
Madhuri, whose last big hit was Devdaas before she settled in the US with husband Dr. Sriram Nene, was even offered a film by Shaji Karun, based on painter Raja Ravi Verma’s life, but she turned it down.
Madhuri was even committed to work in a film by Somnath Sen alongside mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan but there has been no news of it since.
Meanwhile, Chopra is also considering Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee for another important role in the film.
Chopra last directed the cross-border romance, Veer Zaara and directed both Madhuri and SRK in Dil To Pagal Hai in 1997.
Contrary to the initial predictions, Yash Raj's Madhuri Dixit starrer, AAJA NACHLE has managed to hold rather well, especially in the Overseas. While the Anil Mehta directed film has grossed a so-so $425,488 in the US, it has a rather satisfactory $660,238 to show from the UK. Even in Australia, the movie has managed to gross a decent Aus. $ 93,793.
What is interesting to note is that AAJA NACHLE has had an allowable fall of 46 - 56 percent from the first to the second weekend, and this range is considered quite normal in trade parlance.
Well, we have to admit that the 'dhak dhak' girl still has a lot of fire power left in her and that is reason enough for the fans of the dancing queen, Madhuri Dixit, to go 'balle balle'!
Today is Madhuri Dixit Nene’s birthday and while she is still basking in the glory of her Padma Shri, people from the industry are busy sending her flowers and gifts on her special day.
“Thank you!” said the lady, when we wished her happy birthday in advance. And what are her plans for the day? “Well, I don’t do anything out of the box on my birthday, will just spend the day with my family.
Considering I am in India, my whole family and my friends will be with me.” And what about the Bachchans’ Unforgettable tour? Speculation about this has kept her in the news for quite some time, now. “I have still not decided on that. Talks are still on,” says Mads.
Mumbai, Oct 21 (IANS) After all the controversies in "Bigg Boss 4" and shooting an item song, Pakistani model Veena Malik has bagged the biographical role of a sex worker.
Veena will be playing the role of sex worker Madhuri, who has been moonlighting for years to support her family.
The actress has been very quietly meeting sex workers here, particularly Madhuri, for the film "Zindagi 50-50".
"This film has changed my life and my attitude to women and sex workers in particular.
"I insisted on playing Madhuri. Koi connect hai (some connection is there)... I don't know what it was. But I instantly empathized with Madhuri's responsibilities towards her large family," Veena said.
"Maybe because I come from a family of five daughters and one son. But I understand what it feels like to be a woman in a male-dominated society. I've always supported myself, been on my own since adulthood," she noted.
Veena spent hours with Madhuri to know about her dual life.
"In the daytime she's a normal middle-class girl. In the night she puts on her burqa and goes to work in the red-light area, just like any normal working girl," Veena added.
"I loved the dignity that Madhuri brings to her life and her work. I hope I am able to convey the same dignity in my performance," Veena stated.
"Who cares about sex workers? I am appalled by the way they live in the red-light areas, not just in India but across Asia. These women deserve a much better life," felt Veena.
Madhuri Dixit is now back in Mumbai. The ‘Choli ke peeche Kya Hai’ girl ruled Bolywood before marrying a US doctor a settling down in life. She moved to the US for some time and has now come back. But even today, she is a simple Mumbaikar at heart.
She loves everything that a common man in Mumbai enjoys the most. Her favorite food is the down to earth Chaat, Vada pav, Bhelpuri etc. And her stay in the US has only increased her appetite for the food back home.
Remember you heard it here first. The grapevine insists that after Lara Dutta backed out of the Bachhhans ‘Unforgettable tours’ a quick replacement was sought by the organisers after the Bachchans hit the panic button.
And guess who has decided to step in and save the Bachchans show from fading into oblivion? The ever so graceful and dignified Madhuri Dixit. If reports are to be believed the Maharashtrian mulgi has agreed to do the rescue act and shake her famous hips with the Bachchans.
While Madhuri was away in the US and was not available for comments, but her secretary Rikku Rakesh Nath admits that they had a series of meeting with the organisers.
We are in talks currently, but it’s too early to talk about it right now. We have to take care of each other’s comfort level. We should finalise in next couple of days,” says Rikku. With the Dhak Dhak girl coming in, the tour for sure is heading towards some unforgettable moments!
She has the most dazzling smile which lights up the room instantly. Karan Johar felt the megawatt smile in his show Koffee With Karan which goes on air this Sunday.
Madhuri Dixit, the most beautiful woman ever and a fantastic actress to boot talks about her comeback film Aaja Nachle and how unsure she was to face the camera on day one!
In fact, this mother of two, who turned 40 this year admits on the show that when Aditya Chopra approached her for the film she told him, 'You really think people want to watch me?'
Here's a sneak preview to the show:
Karan: You are back Madhuri after so many years. How many years has it been?
Madhuri: Hmmm...six years.
Karan: And yours is possibly the most talked about comeback. How does it feel?
Madhuri: It feels great. It feels good to be back and it feels great to, you know, meet everybody I have worked with, friends and family. It's great being back.
Karan: So, were you at all nervous to face the camera on day one?
Madhuri: Well, day one, I was a little hassled.
Karan: After all those years.
Madhuri: Ya, after all those years. Ah, I don't know why you feel you have lost touch. You know you are going to be on the sets, getting ready, the whole process [is something] you know. And I was wondering, will I be able to do it? But once I was there and I started working... the first day went by, and on the second day I was fine.
Karan: In these six years, were you in touch with Indian cinema at all?
Madhuri: It was hard because I was having kids. There was Aryan, and then two years later I had Ryan. I was really busy, so couldn't really catch up with anything
Karan: What about Ram? Has he been totally supportive of your decision to come down?
Madhuri: Absolutely. I mean, this decision was taken. Like, we both sat down and made a conscious decision whether I should be doing this or not, and he has always supported me. 'If you don't want to work, you want to sit at home and look after the kids, I am happy with that. But if you feel you want to do something, then I am with you all the way, whatever the decision will be.'
Karan: So, Aaja Nachle is the film that you are working on, and is slated for release in November. You are working with Kunal Kapoor , Konkona Sensharma, Akshaye Khanna and a whole lot of youngsters. How was the experience?
Madhuri: It was lots of fun; it was great. Also, because it is fun working with all these actors, there were times, you know, when I literally didn't have to act; I just had to react to whatever they are doing. They are such good actors.
Karan: Do you feel the acting style is more natural? Like you have Konkona, who is a very natural actress.
Madhuri: Yes, Konkona is a very natural actress and so is Kunal. And I think the dialogues are very natural. The situations are not larger than life.
Karan: More real.
Madhuri: Yeah, more real.
Watch out for Madhuri on Koffee With Karan on June 24 at 9 pm on Star One and Star World.
2011/9/17 5:19:25 Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit says Gautam Rajadhyaksha, who died of a heart attack Tuesday, says he has left behind unfinished business and so many memories.
"I can't believe he's gone! He was still so young and vibrant. The last time we spoke he was so excited about the school he was starting in Pune. Now he has left behind so much unfinished business, and so many memories," said Madhuri, from Denver, US.
"Do you know, he always said, 'I've two daughters Madhuri and Kajol'. And when I got married, and later Kajol, he felt he was giving away his daughters. He was such a gentle soul, never said anything hurtful. And what a wonderful artiste.
"We shot some of my most beautiful pictures. And I'll be proud of them forever. You know, in those days there was no artificial gimmicks and touch-ups to beautify the pictures and certainly no photoshop. Gautam shot in natural light. He was so kind. He would always say I looked good from any angle," she added.
Rajadhyaksha passed away Tuesday following a massive heart attack. He was 61.
One of the most sought after glamour photographers in the film industry, he had worked on portraits of almost all the leading stars. Apart from that, he was also associated with films like "Hum Saath Saath Hain", "Hu Tu Tu", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun" as special stills-photographer.
Madhuri remembers the wonderful team that she formed with Gautam and makeup artiste Mickey Contractor.
"We were always together for photo-shoots. And Gautam would insist I use minimal makeup. For Gautam less was always more. Gawd, why did he have to go so soon? I'll miss him," said the actress. (IANS)
Is Madhuri Dixit staging a comeback to movies? Has Yash Chopra offered her a film? Is Bobby Bedi contemplating signing the actress to enact the role of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi? All sorts of stories are floating in the industry. So what’s the truth?
Every few months one keeps hearing that Madhuri, who is settled in the U.S. after her marriage, is contemplating returning to movies. Sometime back, Somnath Sen [LEELA] had teamed Amitabh Bachchan and Madhuri in his new project, but the film couldn’t materialize since the actress was pregnant with her second child.
In the recent past, there were murmurs that at least two prominent producers, Yash Chopra and Bobby Bedi, had approached the actress with film projects. “True, both Yash-ji and Bobby have offered her films,” Madhuri’s business manager Rikku confirms the development, “But the truth is that she hasn’t officially signed any of the projects. There have been discussions… In fact, Yash-ji had offered her two projects, but it all depends on whether she feels excited about those roles.”
Rikku continues with the topic, “Right now, Madhuri is busy with her family. Looking after her husband, home and raising two kids is a full-time responsibility. But, at the same time, she hasn’t closed the doors on movies. Sure, she’s taking time, but the wait will be worth it.”
