The MD of Margadarsi Chits and Financiers Sailaja Kiron, wife of Eenadu MD Ch Kiron was summoned by the IT officials yesterday. She was questioned for over an hour. Sailaja was asked to explain some irregularities in Margadarsi financers and also the transfer of fund between the two groups.
A large media contingent was present outside the IT office. But Sailaja refused to talk to the media. She covered her face with the pallu of her sari and evaded the waiting photographers and videographers. Ramoji Rao and Kiron also adopted similar tactics when they surrender in a police station in Visakhapatnam recently. They were shielded by personal bodyguards with the help of big umbrellas. The media was obstructed from doing its duty.
The same Ramoji Rao does not leave a chance to cry hoarse about press freedom from the rooftops at the slightest opportunity. But when it comes to himself, he adopts a different yardstick.
After the film stars and technicians, the IT authorities have now turned their attention on the Eenadu and Margadarsi chairman Ramoji Rao. Sailaja Kiron, wife of Ramoji Rao’s elder son Kiron and MD of Margadarsi, was grilled by IT sleuths some time back.
Now Ramoji Rao was summoned by the IT officials’ and questioned for more than three hours. The IT officials are still continuing their questioning even now. He was asked to explain certain irregularities in his tax returns and also asked to cough up some 40 crore as tax. The case pertains to some 120 crore as unclaimed money in Margadarsi financiers.
This time, Margadarsi is in real trouble. The Criminal Investigation Department officials have finally collected enough evidence, which they think is sufficient to nail Ramoji Rao. Margadarsi has floated a HUF and under the RBI ACT, cannot collect money from outsiders, except from relatives.
The CID gathered evidence after verifying the address given in the Fixed Deposit certificates and has found that nearly 20 per cent of the addresses given in the FDs were fake. It clearly shows that these are benami transactions.
2007/8/25 12:31:47 Ramoji Rao suffered a setback when the Supreme Court upheld the state government’s contention that the names of all the depositors and their addresses be provided. Margadarsi has been dodging the issue and the details of some depositors that it provided were vague and did not have details like address etc.
The court asked Margadarsi to immediately deposit the unclaimed matured amount in an escrow account. The firm has also been asked to provide complete details about the bank accounts of Margadarsi.
2011/9/16 14:33:34 The Central Bureau of Investigation sleuths on Friday went to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s residence as part of investigations into the purchase of villas in Emaar Properties by his daughter-in-law Brahmani.
According to sources, three CBI officials went to Naidu’s residence and grilled Brahmani and other family members for more than one and half hour in connection with purchase of a villa in Emaar Properties.
Earlier, the officials served notices to Brahmani for questioning. As per CrPC rules, the officials went to her house to collect the information. However, since Brahmani and Lokesh were in the US, the officials grilled her family members and recorded their statements.
The officials completely avoided media glaze at Naidu residence.
Earlier, Naidu stated that Brahmani has two villas in Emaar Properties and they were given to her before marriage with his son Nara Lokesh by his brother-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna. (INN)

2011/9/12 15:13:24 The Central Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the Emaar Property deal has progressed further with the agency questioning various government officials and associate companies at its office on Monday.
According to sources, the CBI sleuths questioned the officials from Bank of India, Revathi Finance, Meenakshi Infra, Kakinada Port and United Bank of India. Following summons sent by the CBI, the officials of different companies appeared before the CBI for questioning. Sources say that the CBI questioned those firms with regard to their purchase of posh villas in Emaar Boulder Hills Township.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing on petition filed by Sandur Power Project of YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy to September 16. The apex court said that it would take up the petition along with Jagathi Publications and Emaar Properties cases on September 16. (INN)
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) which resumed searches at the Margadarsi Financiers headquarters on Sunday is looking for benami depositors, sources said. They are looking for the history of income-tax payments of the depositors, the sources said. The CID personnel are also verifying whether there was any flow of deposits from subscribers of Maragdarsi Chits to Maragdarsi Financiers.
The search at the Margadarsi Financiers office at Fateh Maidan continued till late in the night on Sunday. About 20 policemen were involved in the operations, headed by inspector-general Krishna Raju. "We have seized several documents including records of deposits and payments. They have been preserved in 25 boxes and kept in a room on the premises of the building. The room has been sealed," said an official of the CID.
He added that the operation would be kept on hold for Monday as arguments over the search are posted for hearing on Monday in the court of the first additional chief metropolitan magistrate. The judge, Mr S. Ananthasayana Prasad had halted the searches last week. He allowed the searches on Saturday after counsel for the CID and Margadarsi Financiers came to an interim agreement to allow the searches subject to certain conditions.
Meanwhile, the hard disk of the main server of the organisation containing data of transactions between the depositors and Margadarsi was sent to the AP Forensic Science Laboratory. Nearly 130 customers whose deposits matured on Sunday were given back their money.
The strong words used by Babu to defend Ramoji Rao have come as a surprise to many. Even independent observers are surprised as Babu is no way concerned with the issue or so it would seem. The issue is between the state government and Ramoji Rao. This issue does not concern the people in any way. So why is Babu raising a hue and cry?
The reason is obvious. Babu is said to have invested a considerable amount in the RFC as well as Margadarsi. And so the stakes are very high for him. If the probe against Margadarsi is taken to its logical end, many benami names would come out and that include many big politicians.
The way Babu is jumping to the defense of Ramoji, some congress ministers were compelled to say that Babu is behaving like an official spokesman for the Ramoji group or like a legal advisor.
The hottest news that is doing the rounds of the corridors of power in Hyderabad is about the IT raids. The IT authorities raided some big actors and producers/directors recently. Today the IT officials grilled Eenadu chief Ramoji Rao for over three hours.
The talk in many circles in Hyderabad is that some big wigs in the TDP could be on the IT radar and they face the prospect f IT raids. Some people are even speculating the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu could be on the IT radar. Babu is one of the richest chef ministers in the country and he is said to be worth 2,000 plus crores by conservative estimates.
2011/9/14 4:02:13 The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday questioned for more than five hours former Karnataka minister and mining baron G. Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law Srinavasa Reddy, who have been arrested in an illegal mining case.
The two were grilled at the CBI office in Koti area. The questioning began at 2 p.m.However, the agency officials were tight-lipped and refused to divulge information.
Janardhana and Srinivasa Reddy were being quizzed to find out more information on the illegal mining scam, and on the crime syndicate.
The CBI, which registered a case against Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by Janardhana Reddy in 2009, will try to find out the involvement of government officials and others.
CBI Joint Director V.V. Lakshminarayana told reporters that they would question all those whose names might come up during the interrogation. "We can question anybody and can conduct searches at any place," the official said.
Lakshminarayana said tests like narco analysis, polygraph and brain mapping may be done on the accused only after their consent, as directed by the Supreme Court recently.
"The CBI wants to find out the role played by public servants in granting permits for mining and transportation of iron ore and laying of roads in forest areas," he said.
A battery of defence lawyers, headed by senior Supreme Court advocate Udai Lalit, sought the bail for the accused on the ground that the CBI case against them was politically motivated, mala fide and vindictive. (IANS)
2011/9/13 14:59:52 Former president of Pradesh Congress Committee D Srinivas and owner of Surya Newspaper Nukarapu Surya Prakash Rao on Tuesday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the purchase of villas at Emaar Boulder Hills Township.
Later, talking to media persons outside the CBI’s temporary headquarters at Dilkusha Guest House, Srinivas said that he had submitted all vital documents to the investigating agency in connection with purchase of villa. Claiming that the CBI sleuths were satisfied with his evidence, Srinivas said that he would fully cooperate with the officials in connection with the investigation.

Government officials monitor Chirutha ticket sales!
Believe it or not. We have heard about government officials taking part in poll duty and other duties during calamities like floods and earthquakes. But perhaps for the first time in the history of cinema, government officials are now doing duty for Chirutha.
The revenue officials have been asked to monitor the sale of Chirutha tickets at several places in Andhra like Rajamundry, Gudivada, Machilipatnam etc. The move comes following complaints by Chiru fans that the theatre managements are selling the tickets in black. So revenue officials will now sit along with the booking clerk at the ticket counters and monitor the sale of tickets.
2007/11/23 15:05:32 The congress party and the government are now coming out openly against the CAG findings. The government is trying to defend its action and says that they are not to be blamed for any lapses in the irrigation projects.
The lapses, if any are all on account of the officials! The government and ministers are not guilty of any wrongdoing. So, the government has now made government officials as the scapegoats and the politicians will be let off the hook. K Rosaiah led the operation cover up along with minister for irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
2007/8/28 13:29:50 Chandrababu Naidu chided the officials of the TTD for not making proper arrangements for their stay when he came calling along with the newly weds Lokesh and Brahmani.
The TTD authorities had provided accommodation to the marriage party at different guesthouses when Babu had clearly asked that they should be accommodated at the same place. The TTD officials finally made proper arrangements and the marriage party was accommodated at TSR and other private guesthouses.
The pilgrims were surprised to se Babu and the newly weds along with Balakrishna and others standing outside the guesthouse for some time while the TTD officials made arrangements to accommodate them.
2011/11/17 11:26:23 Once again Income Tax Officials have raided Tollywood beauty Anushka's house at Hyderabad on Wednesday. It came to know they have recovered huge amount of cash, property documents, Gold ornaments etc from her house. During the last year also IT Officials have raided her house and found unaccounted money, gold and properties linked with actor Nagarjuna. Later, she flees away to her home town Bangalore to avert media attention and returned only after the dust settles.
It is surprising why the IT Officials are concentrating on her alone, where as there are many big heroes and heroines in the film industry are earning much more than what she is earning. Anushka is not available to comment on the raids.
Officials’ apathy blamed for Legislator’s inability to keep promises
2011/6/27 16:02:47 Pointing out that as many as 2324 promises made by elected representatives to the people remained unfulfilled, Chairman of AP Assembly Assurances Committee Adala Prabhakara Reddy on Monday blamed the laid-back attitude of the officials to be the reason.
Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office after submitting a report to Speaker Nadendla Manohar in his Chambers, Mr Prabhakara Reddy said that 2324 promises were pending from 1985 till date.
“The problems are piling up day-by-day, particularly in Revenue and Panchayat Raj Departments, due to the indifferent attitude of the officials,” he said.
“Once a problem is received from the people, we refer it to officials concerned and they should respond on it within next 30 days. However, the officials have failed to take action on the problems and led to piling up of cases,” he explained.
He said that the Assurances Committee had studied 202 cases and found solutions to 122 of these cases.
Mr Prabhakara Rao also revealed that while submitting the report to the Speaker, he had appealed to Mr Manohar to direct the officials to cooperate with the elected representatives in fulfilling the promises made to the people.
“If the officials responded promptly and taken action on timely basis, the people’s promises would have been fulfilled long ago,” he pointed out.(INN)
2011/9/15 14:59:34 The chairman of Srilakshmi Narasimha Mining Company K Sasikumar on Thursday alleged that former managing director of AP Mining Development Corporation VD Rajagopal played a key role in handing out the 506 hectares of mining area allocated to him in a platter.
Claiming himself to be a victim of mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy, Sasikumar said that using illegal means Gali acquired the possession of mines originally allocated to him. He also condemned the statement of Rajagopal that he had done nothing wrong in allocating 506 acres of mining area to Gali Janardhan Reddy.
Describing Rajagopal as a `liar’, Sasikumar draw a rough diagram on a piece of paper depicting the mine that was illegally dug out by Gali’s henchmen with collusion of AP government officials. He said he was ready to depose in front of the CBI against Gali and Rajagopal in connection with illegal mining.
Meanwhile CBI Additional Superintendent of Police R M Khan told media that all the five including Rajagopal, former mines secretary Y Sri Lakshmi , Special Secretary (Forests) K D R Jayakumar and Gali Janardhan Reddy’s elder brother G Karunakar Reddy were issued notices in connection with the illegal mining case. He said that the agency was yet to take decision on arresting all the three officers whose houses were raided on Wednesday night.
